2018 Holiday Gift Guide

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at JCU chapter.

For those of you who don’t know how to find the perfect gift.

FOR THE PARENTS THAT SUPPORT YOU

I don’t know about you, but I have the best parents in the world. To show them my appreciation and gratitude for everything they do for me, I always want to find the best gift possible. Here is what I’ve come up with.

School Apparel – Any parent will be proud to wear around a polo or hoodie from thier child’s university.

Tickets – Buy movie tickets for your family, or if you are a big spender try to find a concert or show your whole family will enjoy.

Quality Time – If money’s tight, find an activity you and your parents, or family can do together so you don’t break the bank.

FOR  THE ROOMMATE(S) THAT PUT UP WITH YOU

These are the people you wake up when you get ready for class, that take care of you when you’ve had too much, and that are always there for you no matter what. During the holiday season you may want to show them some appreciation for all they do. Here are some ideas.

Night in – Let’s face it, with the freezing temperatures setting in and the snow/rain mix coming a night out isn’t always ideal. Give your roommates a night in. Buy some face masks, a movie and some snacks. This allows you to spend time together and it can be used for multiple people.

Mugs, Scarves, anything cozy – If you’re looking to buy for multiple people, get variations of the same gift. Get each friend a mug and put some hot chocolate mix in it, or if you find a great deal on scarves or other small but needed items go for it. Gifting is truly about the thought.

FOR THE FRIEND THAT HAS BECOME FAMILY

This is the person you did not know you needed until they stepped into your life. This is hard to give blanket suggestions for because you are going to need to figure out what that person really likes and cater the gift to them, Here are some ideas.

Tie Blanket – These are nice homemade gifts that are extremely useful. It works for just about everyone, and if you know your besties favorite color or pattern, you’ll be able to create a blanket they’ll love.

Books/movies – Maybe there’s an author your friend loves, buy a book by them. Not only will it give them something to do over break, but you may be the one to introduce them to their favorite novel.

FOR THE SIBLINGS THAT ANNOY YOU

You can’t live with them, you can’t live without them. They were always there for you growing up, getting you in trouble and playing the innocent card. If you are lucky enough to have siblings, you’ll definitely want to surprise them with something

Gag gifts – Give your older brother a “winning” scratch off card. They will be ecstatic, that is until they find out it is not real.

School Apparel – Siblings, especially younger ones, love to wear their big siblings college apparel. When I was a kid, I loved getting shirts from my siblings college that I could wear around and feel just a bit older than I was.

FOR THE RANDOM PERSON YOU NEED TO BUY FOR

If you feel obligated to get someone a gift, and have no idea what to get here are some general ideas for you to consider.

Gift cards- Very easy and universally appreciated

Mugs- Everyone loves a good mug, you could even get a travel one
