After disbanding back in 2021, the six member K-pop girl group, Gfriend, will finally be coming back with new music! The group will have a special concert to celebrate 10 years since their original debut which was back on January 13th, 2015. The concert will be on the 18th and 19th of January, 2025, in Seoul, South Korea. In addition to their weekend concert they will also be releasing new music too. There will be a one track pre-release on January 6th at 12pm KST(January 5th at 10pm EST). The actual album will come out on January 13th, 6pm KST(January 13th, 4am EST).Â
I have been a Buddy (Gfriend’s fandom name) since 2018 and to say that I am excited would be an understatement! When the six member group disbanded back in 2021, the members promised Buddy’s that they would return as “Gfriend” one day and that although they would not be able to continue as a group, since the entertainment company they were signed under didn’t want to continue their relationship with them, the girls would comeback as a group and would perform in front of Buddy’s again one day. So, while this comeback might be rather unexpected to some, those who were/are fans of the group have been looking forward to this day for the past three or four years.Â
The company that Gfriend were originally signed and debuted under is called “Source Music”. Thankfully, after coming to some sort of agreement, all six members are able to come back and use the name Gfriend once more. Whether or not the group would come back to buddy’s using the name “Gfriend” has had much debate. This is because Source Music holds all of the copyright for the group’s name and for all of their music they released under that name as well.Â
Not just buddy’s are looking forward to the bands comeback, but K-pop fans in general are highly anticipating the release of the groups new album. Not much information has been released about this comeback as it was only announced that the group would be coming back on the first of December. While the release date for their album is only about a month away, I am truly counting down the days! Especially after seeing what all the members have been doing since their groups disbandment and how they have been growing their solo careers, I can’t wait to see the type of chemistry and new sound they have as a group after doing so much in their own solo careers and building their own individual sound.Â
If you have any interest in looking into the group or checking any of their music out, I suggest listening to Crossroads, Labyrinth, MAGO, or Apple. These are some of my personal favorite songs anyway. I could seriously listen to them on repeat all day!Â
