The premiere of Michael, the long awaited biopic about Michael Jackson, was always going to be more than just another red carpet event. But what’s really fueling conversation right now isn’t just the film itself, it’s the energy in the room and what the attendance says about Jackson’s complicated legacy. A lot of people that came to the premiere people did not really expect to see. However, a lot of the talk was about the Jackson family and who showed up and who didn’t.

A strong portion of the family was front and center. Michael Jackson’s sons, Prince and Bigi, made a rare public appearance, joined by several of his brothers, including Jackie, Marlon, and Jermaine. The film’s star, Jaafar Jackson, Michael’s nephew, was also there, making it feel like a deeply personal, family project.

But the absences stood out just as much.

Key figures like Janet Jackson and Paris Jackson did not attend, and reports suggest some family members have been hesitant or critical about how the story is told. Some relatives celebrated on the red carpet while others kept their distance, and it has added another layer to the conversation.

In the end, the premiere felt less like a united family moment and more like a reflection of where things stand today. Supportive in parts, divided in others, and still navigating how Michael Jackson’s legacy should be told.
