Meet Dominique Sgobba

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at IUP chapter.

Meet Dominique Sgobba, a sophomore at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Dominique is from Scranton, Pennsylvania on the north eastern side of the state. She is a 2016 graduate of North Pocono High School where she was involved in chorus, orchestra, theater, and served as drum major of the marching band for two years.

Dominique chose to attend IUP for their nationally accredited Eberly College of Business and Information Technology, their Business Honors Program, and the Cook Honors College. She is currently double majoring in Human Resources Management as well as General Management. She chose her majors due to the fact that she enjoys helping people with their problems, which is a necessary quality for one in her particular field of study to have. Some of Dominique’s personal strengths that will help her succeed in her major are her ability to make connections, act as a leader, and her presentation skills.

Currently, Dominique is planning to graduate a year early in the spring of 2019. Upon graduation, she plans to work for her local Army Depot in their Human Resources department.

While at IUP, she has become an active member in the Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM), the national business fraternity Phi Gamma Nu, the Cook Honors College, the Eberly Business Honors Program, and the IUP Management Association in which she was elected Community Service Chair. Next year, Dominique hopes to join the Alice Paul House, an organization that helps to promote the awareness of domestic violence.

Her advice to incoming freshmen is to try and meet as many people as you can. She feels that becoming involved in multiple organizations on campus has definitely helped her make more friends, which then makes college feel more like home. Being in the Cook Honors College has brought her many new opportunities while also allowing her to become closer to her classmates, including her roommate. As for the best advice she has been given, her mom always tells her not to care about what other people think of you.

Dominique enjoys singing in her free time and was a member of the IUP Women’s Chorus in the fall semester. She also likes to read, particularly her favorite book Perks of Being a Wallflower. A fun fact about Dominique is she has two pet birds and one of them can actually sing the Addam’s Family theme song.

Kate is a senior Communications Media major at Indiana University of Pennsylvania from Bentleyville, Pennsylvania. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends, taking long naps, eating ice cream with lots of sprinkles, photography, musicals, walking her dog, and listening to 60s/70s music.
