Abigail Plowcha–Vice Music Chair of STATIC

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at IUP chapter.

Abigail Plowcha is a junior from Homer City, PA.  She majors in Natural Science with a concentration in Pre-Chiropractic and a minor in Biology.  Abigail is extermely close to her family, so she chose IUP because she wanted to stay close to home and she had heard great things about the science program here…What better place to go she thought!

Abigail is active around the IUP community and also within Indiana County.  She is the Vice Music Chair of STATIC and the Treasurer of the Biology Club.  Currently, Abigail is a member of Tri Beta, a biological honor society, and Alpha Chi Sigma, a chemical Honor Society.  In addition to leading throughout campus, she regularly volunteers at Aging Services Inc. in Indiana.  Abigail enjoys being involved with these organizations because it allows her to build her resume, gain connections, and meet other amazing individuals.

When asked who her biggest influence was Abigail said, “My grandmother because she was an amazing and strong woman and definitely helped make me who I am today.  She taught me to be responsible, but to still have fun no matter what I do.”  Her favorite quote is, “Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass.  It’s about learning to dance in the rain” by Vivian Greene.  In Abigail’s free time, she likes to spend time with her family and friends.  One interesting fact about Abigail is that “Over spring break, I went on the Alternate Spring Break trip to Nicaragua.  There, I helped the locals build houses and also got the opportunity to visit and volunteer at the free clinic there.  It was an amazing and eye-opening experience.”

After this year, Abigail hopes to transfer to a Chiropractic college and begin working on her Doctor of Chiropractic degree.  In the end, her dream is to open up her own practice and continue learning as much as she can.  Her advice to her fellow students would be “Always try new things.  Even if you don’t know anyone in an organization, join anyway!  It’s one of the best ways to meet new people and lifelong friends.”

Everyone meet Abigail! Make sure you say hi when you see her around campus!
