5 Moments from the Latin Grammys We Need to Talk About

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at IUP chapter.

Let the debriefing begin.

I know, I know. The Latin GRAMMYs were held nearly two weeks ago, and we are just now debriefing. But there were *so* many moments, and I think we all needed some time to process. So now, it is time to debrief.

Shakira and Bizarrap winning Song of the Year for “Shakira: Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53”

More specifically, their speech after winning the award, in which Bizarrap gave credit to Shakira for saying “what she had to say” in Spanish. This song was immediately popular, as Shakira released her thoughts and emotions following her separation from husband Piqué in 2022.

I will simply refer to this lyric: “Yo solo hago música, perdón que te salpique.” Even if you do not speak Spanish, this song is certainly a girl power anthem for all to feel empowered. And let’s not forget to mention how sweet it was that Shakira brought her two sons along with her to the Latin Grammys!

Christian Nodal & Cazzu’s Red Carpet Moment

Mexican musician Christian Nodal and Argentine singer Cazzu shared a heartwarming moment on the red carpet that quickly went viral when Nodal knelt down to adjust Cazzu’s dress to be camera ready on the carpet. The couple welcomed a baby girl into this world just a few short months ago, and can we just say they are killing the parent game? I am living for the videos of him carefully walking down the steps of the airplane with his daughter wrapped up in his arms!

Rosalía opening with “Se Nos Rompió El Amor”

Paying tribute to her Spanish roots (and how fitting, since the Latin GRAMMYs were hosted for the first time ever in Spain this year!) Rosalía performed “Se Nos Rompió El Amor,” originally by Rocío Jurado. In a stunning black gown and dangling gold earrings, Motomami herself sang this rompe corazon with a flamenco flare in an elegant manner only she could deliver!

Rauw Alejandro’s performance of “Se Fue”

I’m so sorry (I’m really not,) but you know we *had* to debrief this moment. After Rosalía and Rauw’s split– ending their engagement and three year relationship– this song felt a little too personal. Rauw’s delivery of this song seemed intimate, heartfelt, and full of emotion. Surrounded by tons of candles and a fiery circle that flared up during his performance, this song touches on the fallout of a partner. BRB while I ugly cry, I’m clearly not over their breakup. *Also, if you enjoy this song, I highly recommend Elsa y Elmar, Little Jesus, and Ximena Sariñana’s version of “Se Fue.”

Christian Nodal and Kany García’s performance of “La Siguiente”

Maybe I am just a super fan of Nodal, but there is no denying the power in this performance! Kany opened up the song with Nodal coming in later on, harmonizing beautifully together. Their little bailecito during the instrumental filled my heart as the two friends embraced each other, putting on a lovely show!
