Boys may seem like the most important thing in the world to you right now. We see this trend in movies and books where you have to meet “the one” right now. But forming those relationships that are meant to last a life time is not as important as you might think. There’s so much more to focus on at this time in your life. So when you’re going through boy trouble, sit down and take a look at these things in your life. Which ones have you been excluding?

1. Family

If you’re anything like me, your family is one of the most important things in your life. They’ll love you unconditionally even when you let them down.

2. Friends

Whether you have 1, 10, or 100, they’re very important. Make sure your friends know they have priority in front of boyfriends, or you could risk losing them.

3. Classes

You’re paying to go to school. Wasting your money every time you skip one. Save your absences for “mental health days” or emergencies and do NOT skip to go see a romantic interest, they are for your free time.

4. Homework

Homework should always come before fun. Use fun as a reward for getting your homework done on time or ahead of time.

5. Cleaning

Having a clean room helps reduce the amount of stress you have. Taking the time to clean it is far more important than spending your time messaging a boy who may never give you the time of day.

6. Work

Every college student is broke. If you’re lucky enough to have a job, don’t call off to hang out with your romantic interest. Chances are there will be somebody lined up and ready to take your job if you get caught.

7. Exercise

Working out reduces your risk of cardiovascular disease and cancers. Every body should do it and if you’re spending all of your time with a boy, chances are you aren’t that worried about it.

8. Health

Similarly to exercising, eating healthy has a great effect on your life. Things like drinking more water, getting the right nutrients, and not overeating will help you feel better and look better too!

9. Food

Eating healthy is good for you but indulging and treating yourself has benefits too! Make sure to do this in moderation, but don’t over do it!

10. Volunteering

Doing something good for your community and for others will make you feel better. There is always something to do around campus or even in your home town so keep your eyes open for opportunities!

11. Fashion

Putting together outfits that make you feel good can make a huge difference on your happiness. Find your style and show it off, who cares what anybody thinks of it as long as you feel comfortable and happy!

12. Reading

This is a way to lose yourself. Books can use words to wrap you up in a fictional world and make you forget about your own problems for a little while.

13. Writing

Write anything you want. Write a blog post, a poem, a story, whatever comes to mind. Getting your feelings out on paper (or digital paper) is a great form of relief whether it’s written or not.

14. Movies

Rent yourself a chick flick and stare at your celebrity crush for a couple hours.

15. Shopping

Sometimes all you need is a new piece of clothing to perk yourself up. Buy yourself a new cute shirt and forget about all the boy drama, after all, look how cute you are in that shirt!

16. Vacation

It might be hard to take a vacation sometimes if you’re a college student, as I’ve mentioned before 99.9% of us are broke. But this doesn’t have to be far! It can be as simple as a trip to a friend’s hometown where you’ve never been. Getting out and exploring the world doesn’t have to be as expensive as a $2,000 trip to Disney World.

17. Outdoors

The outdoors can be gross and filled with scary bugs and poisonous snakes and spiders, but sometimes it is so relieving to be one with nature. It is important to do this sometimes and just cut away from social media and the pressure of the internet and your peers.

18. Pets

I don’t know about you, but I always look forward to going home and seeing my animals. They are always happy to see me and know exactly how to put a smile on my face. If you don’t have any pets, head to a friends house or maybe the local shelter to volunteer!

19. Photography

Looking at the world through a lens can change your entire perspective. Take some cute pictures and post them on a platform like Instagram or VSCO to get some good feedback from friends!

20. Tumblr

Who has time for boy problems when you’ve got a successful tumblr blog to run? I know this can be a huge distraction for me from real life. It’s easy to lose yourself in the endless scrolling of cute pictures and funny posts. (Shameless self promotion: http://sunsetbblvd.tumblr.com)

21. Coffee

This one is simple. Head over to your local coffee shop and treat yourself. Some local favorites in Indiana are Commonplace Coffeehouse and Cafe Amadeus.

22. Netflix

It’s easy to get wrapped up in a TV series, and it’s even easier when Netflix has every season right at your finger tips. I recommended watching The Vampire Diaries, those Salvatore brothers can really distract you from your boy issues so that when he texts you, you’ll be saying “New year, who dis?”

23. Sports

I’m not a particularly sporty type, but I enjoy watching things like baseball and hockey on TV. If you’re like me, you can watch them, but if you do enjoy getting active, go out and play!

24. Make-Up

There are videos all over You Tube that can show you different and fun looks to give a go! If a guy ever makes you feel down about your appearance (which isn’t cool AT ALL), give one a try and show him how wrong he is.

25. Yourself

On a more serious note, the most important thing is yourself. You get one life, and you should be comfortable with the person that you are. YOU deserve the most attention. Boys are not everything, especially the ones who get you down. Love yourself before you let anybody else love you. Hold your head up high because you’re worth so much more than that. You’re the boss of your life, and don’t let any guy get that twisted!
