10 Things To Do When You Need To Get Back On Track and Remember Who You Are

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at IUP chapter.

If you’re like me, you’re no stranger to mental slumps. When you’re not feeling like yourself, everything seems more difficult than usual. This is especially true when you’re approaching the end of a semester that somehow seems substantially longer than it actually is. I’ve made a list that should help you get back on track and hopefully have you feeling refreshed.

1.  Make a Throwback Playlist

Throwback songs give you just the perfect amount of nostalgia. Whether the song is slow or upbeat, they always seem to wake you up and give what you need to feel a bit more uplifted.

2. Take a Walk in Nature

Feeling more at peace around trees and streams is no mistake. Clearing your head and seeing how pretty Earth is gives you the relaxation you deserve.

3. Make a List of What Makes You Happy

Sometimes we get so caught up in the stress of daily life, and it’s hard to let go of that bad mood. The things that make you happy can be as simple as a shower after a long day. Whatever it is, it keeps you going.

4. Remeber Your Goals

It could be your career, fitness goals, the possibilites are endless. When goals are longer term, it’s easy to forget why you’re doing what you’re doing. Just sit back and image finally reaching where you want to be and give youself the extra push to keep going.

5. Create Something

Go crazy with this one. Cook a meal, paint something, do a photoshoot. Connecting to your creative self reminds you there’s more to life than working.

6. Meditate

When you’re filled with stress it’s hard to get things done. Pay attention to your thoughts and imagine throwing away the negative ones. It’s easy to get caught up in a thinking pattern that puts you down, remember to reevaluate your thoughts every now and then.

7. Hang Out With Someone You Don’t Normally Hang Out With

It’s really easy to get cuaght up in what people think of you, especially if you’re around the same people all the time. Talking with someone new can help you see parts of yourself you forgot about, or even learn something new.

8. Make a To-Do List

Don’t forget your responsibilites aren’t going away! Just don’t punish yourself for procrastinating – everyone does it.  Simply plan out everything you’ve been meaning to do.

9. Stop Worrying About People Who Don’t Enrich Your Life

Stop thinking about that crush who only talks to you when they’re bored, forget about that friend that doesn’t know the difference between constructive criticism and just being rude. Staying hung up on these things doesn’t change anything, it just brings you down and you’re better than that anyway.

10. Remember it’s Okay to Get Off Track

Finally, remember life is filled with ups and downs. Every good period of life comes with downsides. You’re only human so don’t beat yourself up about it – life is a rollercoaster!
