As the winter season rolls around, we see an increasing amount of holiday themed parties, from winter formals to ugly sweater parties.  But what can you wear to fit the theme and embrace the holiday cheer? Here are some ideas to get you started:

The Classic Grandma Sweater:
This is probably the easiest holiday theme for a party.  Simply stop by a nearby GoodWill or thrift store and pick out your favorite. The options are endless; wear a cozy oversized sweater with leggings, or dress it up with nice jeans and heels.  The more sparkle and corny snowy Christmas landscapes the better.  However, sweaters can get too warm at house parties (and we all know you’ll be getting your dance on) so opt for a sweater vest or a Christmas themed T-shirt.  Remember, just because your sweater is lazy doesn’t mean you should be too.  Put forth some effort to make yourself shine!

The Perfect Gift:
What’s the best part of the holiday season? The gifts of course! Same thing goes for parties.  Dress as a styling present and everyone will want to unwrap you.  Try punching the bottom out of a large gift bag and wear it over a festive dress or shirt and leggings.  Maybe even get creative and wrap yourself in gift-wrap or tissue paper!  But be careful, these outfits can be fragile.  Top the whole thing off with a bow in your hair and ribbons to accessorize.  For Lambda Chi’s Christmas party, Sofia Stout got creative and made a gift tag. Your outfit doesn’t have to be flashy or expensive, “I found my poinsettia on the floor of Hobby Lobby!” Sofia said about her cute makeshift hair accessory.  With a little imagination, you’ll be the present no one can take their eyes off of.

The Happy Elf:
Christmas couldn’t happen without Santa’s little helpers, so that means an elf costume is essential!  This costume can be completed with a simple look in your wardrobe.  Alexa Cappas wore red shorts and striped stockings that matched her candy cane suspenders.  Try a cute skirt and leggings in holiday colors.  Maybe even get crafty and make yourself elf ears, a hat, or suspenders.  Finish it off with rosy cheeks and don’t forget the holiday cheer!

The Sexy Santa:
Okay, we’ve all seen it, the classic Mean Girl’s Christmas dance.   Dress up like Regina George and her gang of Plastics.  Try wearing a red dress and thick black belt just like Ole Saint Nick.  Wear black boots or booties and a Santa hat.  Go all out and pin white fuzzy trim to the top and bottom of the dress to completely transform the look.  Just don’t confuse sexy with being a ho ho ho. You go Glenn Coco.

The Reindeer:
Reindeer are the cutest part of Christmas, so why not dress like one?  Wear earth tones or a brown dress and fuzzy boots.  Wear black gloves for hooves and make antlers or buy some for a reasonable price at nearby stores.  Wear a red belt as a “harness” and don’t leave out the jingle bells!

The holidays are all about being festive; so go all out and enjoy yourself.  Use these ideas as inspiration or come up with your own to be the best dressed at the party.  Have fun and Happy Holidays!
