Top 5 Movies To Watch Over Thanksgiving Break

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at IU chapter.

With Thanksgiving break less than three weeks away, everyone’s mind is focused on three things: food, Christmas shopping, and the slew of movies that are coming out just in time for the holiday season. Here are the top five that I think will be getting all the buzz.

    •    Immortals- November 11.  From the same producers of 300, this classic tale of heroes, fights, and beautiful women comes around again with hints of 300 mixed in. Two groups clash and fight for immortality as destined by the gods. It’s that perfect blend between shirtless warriors and action sequences that’ll make this a winner for both guys and girls.

    •    J. Edgar- November 11. You know those movies that have “Oscar” written all over them from the trailer a lá Black Swan and The King’s Speech? This is one of those movies. Leonardo DiCaprio plays J. Edgar, a prominent member of the U.S. Law Enforcement, who knows too many secrets that protects many important figures in American history like John F. Kennedy. Armie Hammer, the twins from The Social Network, plays his assistant who soon learns lies, secrets, and back handed deals are just part of the game in Washington D.C. Will the lies catch up to the people they are about or will Edgar take the blame for it all?

    •    The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1- November 18. After months of build-up, TwiHearts can rejoice in Bella and Edward’s walk down the aisle. Not being a fan of the franchise myself, I can’t say too much about the movie except it’s a fact the producers have stepped up their game videography wise.  The previews are a smartly designed as wedding invitations with the suspense of not knowing what will happen to Bella after she becomes pregnant with Edward’s vampire child. Finally, what happened to Jacob? This movie cannot exist without his abs being in there somewhere, and even I know that.

    •    Happy Feet Two- November 18. If this is anything like the first, expect a cuteness overload. What’s not to love about singing and dancing penguins? Mumble’s son Erik can’t dance which is a minor problem in this happy world. Erik sets off on a mission to learn some moves and get some guidance from the powers above. Bonus: The girl group of penguins performs “Sexy Back” by Justin Timberlake. If that doesn’t seal the deal, I don’t know what will.

    •    The Muppets- November 23. This is the first Muppet movie in 12 years to hit studios, and the whole gang is back with appearances by Amy Adams and Jason Segel. The Muppets are on a journey to save their old studio and home from an oil tycoon trying to buy it for money. Some of the most important lessons learned by kids are from the Muppets, and maybe they will be able to remind us all about the more important things in life. This one is great for the whole family to go kick back to after a turkey hangover.
