It is hard to ignore the increasing shades of orange throughout our beautiful campus. This can only mean one thing; it is finally October. But, do not forget which color overrides them all: Pink. October is breast cancer awareness month. Whether it is on an item of clothing or on a backpack, it is impossible to step foot on campus without seeing a pink ribbon.
Big Man on Campus, an annual all-male talent show is Friday, October 14th. The women of Zeta Tau Alpha organize the production and all proceeds benefit the Susan G. Komen Survivor Recognition Program, âThink Pinkâ awareness program and the IU Medical Center. Over the past three years the women of ZTA have raised over $500,000 benefiting the cause, making Big Man On Campus the largest Greek-run philanthropy in the nation.
âThe cool thing about our philanthropy is that it involves over forty campus-wide organizations. Everyone is working together towards this one cause. Without the support and efforts of everyone in the community, we would not be where we are today,â says Meghan McNerney Co-Philanthropy Chair.
This year twenty-three male contestants will be performing in front of a packed IU auditorium in hopes of becoming crowned âBig Man on Campus.â The theme of this yearâs show is âTraveling through time to make breast cancer history.â Each competitor will represent a decade, which will inspire his performance.
âBreast cancer took the life of my neighborâs mother. I do this to keep others from going through the pain their family felt,â says Trey Dunn, member of Delta Upsilon Fraternity.
Other acts such as Straight No Chaser, InMotion, Ladies First and some surprise guests will be performing at the show.
Whether youâre looking to support a great cause or watch some talented performers, this yearâs Big Man on Campus will be sure not to disappoint.
The show begins at 7 at the IU Auditorium on Friday, October 14. Tickets are $13 and can be bought at the door.
