I don’t know about you, but the first thing I think about when I buy a new top is, “How am I going to fill this out?” I haven’t grown since the 8th grade, so I have been cursed with the flat-chested B cup since I was 14. Of course to fix this problem, I have every push-up bra from the Victoria Secret collection, however, I will admit that I have contemplated getting a break augmentation. So I did a little research.
This day in age, it seems that having plastic surgery is as easy as going to the dentist. There are even some people who have Botox parties. All you have to do is to research plastic surgeons on the internet (there are even some here in Bloomington) and schedule a consultation. At the consultation the surgeon will discuss options such as what kind of implants are available to you, the size and texture you prefer, what kind of incision you want and the cost of the surgery. The cost of having breast implants varies with what kind of implant and where you have your operation, however the average cost is approximately $5,000.
There are risks to having both silicone and saline implants. Because silicone implants have been linked with tissue disease, breast cancer and immune deficiencies, the FDA has ordered for silicone implants to be used by a limited group of women, usually those for post-breast cancer reconstruction. Saline has developed the reputation of being safer than silicone implants because if they do leak, they only leak salt or saline water to the body instead of silicone gel, however, saline implants are also linked with causing infection because bacteria is capable in growing inside the saline implant. It is important when choosing saline implants to make sure that the implant will be sterilized beforehand. In addition to the breast implants to leak, there are also risks for the implants to harden and deform, deflate, ripple, cause loss of nipple sensation and make it more difficult for your doctor to analyze a mammogram.
The recovery time for breast implants varies from person to person. It can take 2-7 days for a patient to completely recover from the anesthesia from the operation. Recovery time also varies by the type of incision you have. If you choose to have a below the muscle incision, the recovery time is usually longer and more painful than having an implant placed above the muscle. It also depends on which type and size of implant you received. It generally takes 3 weeks before the doctor advises for you to lift anything above your head.
Even though having breast implants is a surgical procedure that has many risks, it has one aspect that a push-up bra can’t give you, it’s permanent. Bra experts say that you should buy new bras every 3-6 months. This is due to factors such as gaining weight (even gaining 5 pounds can change your bra size!), changing your exercise technique, or you’ve changed your diet. These factors can change your breast size and in order to be comfortable and supported in your bra, you must be fitted every 3-6 months to make sure your bra size hasn’t changed. Studies have found that women who wear bras 24 hours a day have had a higher chance of contracting breast cancer than women who wore bras less than 12 hours a day. The problem is bras put pressure on the breast to constrain the flow of lymph, which can cause other toxins to stay in the breast as well. This is debated to be the cause of a bra that is too tight, so getting a bra fitting on a regular basis is important!
