Our Spring Break Shopping List

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at IU chapter.

Packing for Spring Break is stressful – trust me, I know the feeling of panic that sets in at 2 a.m. the night before a trip when you haven’t even begun to think about what to wear.

It’s easy to get carried away and want to bring your entire wardrobe, but you really only a need a few carefully chosen essentials.

Read on for my foolproof Spring Break packing checklist – these items are all you need (besides sunscreen, of course).

1. Nude tent dress ($88, shopnastygal.com) – This summery dress is a little on the pricier end, but incredibly versatile. Wear with gladiator sandals for a shopping day or add a thin belt and pair it with wedges for a dinner out.

2. Shorts ($40, AE) – Denim shorts are a staple – you’ll wear this destroyed, light wash pair every day of break. Cuff them for a trendier look.

3. Sandals ($69, Steve Madden) – These lace-up gladiators are casual enough for day, but funky enough for night. The mustard color gives them a little edge, and is surprisingly good alternative to the usual tan.

4. Hat ($24, Urban Outfitters) – Fedoras are making a comeback, and this one from Urban Outfitters is simple and affordable. Wear it on the plane so it doesn’t get smashed in your suitcase.

5. Sunglasses ($14, Urban Outfitters) – You’ll definitely need a pair of shades if you’re headed to the beach. This cat-eye style is right on trend this year.

6.Bikini (bottoms and top, $17 each, both Old Navy) – Cute and affordable bathing suits are hard to come by. Old Navy, Victoria’s Secret and Target all carry a variety of styles that can be mixed and matched for under $50, like these paisley bottoms and coral top. The bandeau style prevents unsightly tan lines.

7. Sweater ($28, Forever 21) – Even if you’re travelling south of the equator, you should still bring a sweater just in case. Some places like Florida and Arizona get chilly at night, and you’ll at least need an extra layer for the plane. This open cardigan from Forever 21 is pretty basic, but the fringe gives it a bohemian feel that’s perfect for the beach.

8. Sleeveless shirt ($36, Topshop) – This cute embroidered top can be worn anywhere, whether it’s to a nice dinner or a night on the town. Or, pair it with denim shorts for a casual look.

9. Basic tank ($24, American Apparel) – This soft viscose tank from American Apparel is ridiculously comfortable and versatile. Wear it as a beach cover-up or with denim shorts to go into town.

10.Floral dress ($34, ASOS) – This dress doubles as a beach cover-up and a going out dress. The Hawaiian floral print is especially on trend for spring.

11.Plaid shirt ($35, AE) – A button-down shirt is always a great piece to have on hand, no matter the weather. This plaid, boyfriend-style version is oversized and lightweight – perfect for the beach.

12.Carryall bag ($44, Lulu’s)– Use this camel-colored satchel on the plane. Big enough to hall all your stuff, it’s a stylish alternative to the quintessential college student backpack.
