This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at IU chapter.

A Hoosier Girl’s Guide to Super Bowl Sunday:

The Indiana University campus is abuzz as Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis hosts their first Super Bowl this Sunday. What’s even more exciting? Our Marching Hundred will be playing a 5-minute pre-game show. Proudly display your Hoosier spirit and love of football by getting ready for this American holiday. As the New York Giants and the New England Patriots gear up for the big day, here are some ways you can as well.

Learn the Lingo: Beware for guys shouting endlessly at the T.V. If you want to stay on your toes, there are a few key words anyone should know, starting with interception. For future reference, an interception is when the defense catches the ball taking it away from the offense, and gaining possession for the next play. You can thank me later. Most importantly, in football they score touchdowns. Not goals. Not runs. Say it with me now, touchdowns.

Host a Party:What better excuse to hang out with friends? Host one yourself, invite over the guys and girls, order some Buffa Louie’s, and crank the game up loud. Cheering required. Throw a bash your friends will be talking about for the rest of the year. Who knows, your famous Super Bowl party may even become an annual event.

Look Forward to Commercials: Loadedwith shock value, the commercials during the Super Bowl are something everyone looks forward to. Filled with humor, the commercials are arguably the most entertaining part of Super Bowl Sunday. Sneak Peak: Look forward to a new commercial edition of the famous 80s movie, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.

Halftime: Madonna arrived in Indianapolis early this past Wednesday, announcing it via her Facebook page.  The halftime entertainment is something everyone has kept their eyes on, especially after the Janet Jackson/ Justin Timberlake incident of ’04. After a rehearsal on Thursday, Madonna will be preparing for her chance at the halftime show. The New York Times has even let it leak that the famous 80s pop star will be performing alongside rapper Nicki Minaj. Nicki and Madonna together? Save me a seat.

Get Dolled Up: Calling all IU fashionistas! Here is your chance to get geared up! What better way to showcase your style than by strutting your stuff in team spirit wear? Whether you are donning blue and white for the Giants, or adding a touch of red and silver in favor of the Patriots, wearing the colors of the team you are rooting for gives you an upper hand. Guys will be impressed by your support and coordination. Don’t overlook accessories; they can go a long way. Add a bow to your hair or fun team colored Mardi Gras beads can go a long way!

Impress Your Man: If your main man is looking for you to partake in his football world, give it a go. Pay attention, cheer his team on, and get excited! The Super Bowl is a perfect bonding opportunity as he points out different plays to you. It gives the guys a chance to show off their knowledge and work on impressing you. Who knows, you may find yourself learning something and having fun along the way! Number one Super Bowl rule? Don’t walk in front of the T.V. Ever
