It’s no surprise that the Marvel superhero movies tend to do so well at the box office, but their latest film is a new kind of superhero movie. Deadpool is Marvel’s first R-rated feature film. It is very clear that it deserves this rating with the frequent crude jokes, vulgar language, death, and gore. But—believe me—it’s worth it.
1. It’s FUNNY!
If you aren’t a fan of sex jokes or crude humor, this definitely isn’t the film for you. Keeping in mind that it is rated R, the jokes are more adult than what is typically used in superhero movies. Deadpool is sarcastic and does not give a f*** about what anyone thinks. Full of wry wit, your sides will be hurting from how much you’ll LOL at this “merc with a mouth.” Also the digs at the terrible attempt of X-Men Origins and the Hello Kitty garb are my favorite part of the movie.
2. It’s a New Kind of Hero Movie
Deadpool is not necessarily a Superhero. From his comic book history, he is actually a villain at times. I suppose he could be called an anti-hero, since his morals may not be lined up in the right/good spot. You want Deadpool to succeed in his goals and get the girl, even if it’s not the right thing to do. He is someone to root for.
3. Romance!!
This was how I spent my Valentine’s Day, and I can’t say I regret it. There is a love story in this action packed film, providing an enjoyable plot. The romance between Wade Wilson and his lady is really sweet and completely unexpected from their first interaction. You’ll love this couple!
4. Breaking the “Fourth Wall”
The opening credits speak directly to the audience, listing the characters’ stereotypes as opposed to their names and calling out the typical nature this genre of films tends to take. The comics take on a similar attitude, so it’s nice to see in the movie. This adds to the humor and makes it that much more memorable.
5. Ryan Reynolds
There’s an all nude scene. Enough said.
Basically, Deadpool is worth it! Go see it ASAP—I’ll even go with you if you need a friend!!
