Why did you choose to attend IC?
Because it’s a small-ish college with almost a liberal arts focus but it has a great film program, which was all very important to me when I was looking to a college. No other communication schools had strong liberal arts programs, which was important to me because I wanted to study other things too.

What are you involved in on-campus?
I’m part of Park Productions, the campus production company run by students.  I work in ITS and I’m part of the Ithaca College Swing Dance Club.

What’s your favorite part about being an IC student?
My friends! But I really do like the student film environment.  The students I get to worth with here are great people and not all of them are film students so I get to interact with people who don’t do the same things I do, which is a lot of fun.

What’s your dream job?
I’m going to say… editor for major motion pictures.

Outside of school and film work, what else do you do?
When I’m at home, I like to boulder—a form of rock climbing.  I do like watching movies quite a bit, but I also enjoy reading and mythology.  I read a lot of modern books based on mythology.  I’m a huge Douglass Adams fan.

Have any cool summer plans?
I’m trying to get an internship in Nashville, which could be interesting and a great thing to be put on my resume.  I’m also planning on producing a few rock climbing videos and a music video or two for a local band, as well as working on independent films for myself.

It’s December 21, 2012. How are you be spending the end of the world?
Honestly… drinking with my friends.  I’m going to be in L.A. in the fall though, but I think I’ll be back in my hometown by then.  SO I’ll be with my home friends and it’ll be a fun night.

She is also an active member of IC Intercambios, which allows her to visit local farms to teach English to migrant workers, and of the Committee for Inclusive Education, a group promoting ethnic studies programs at Ithaca College and beyond. When she's not writing papers or handing out noise violations, Tessa enjoys knitting socks, going to the farmer's market, and dancing like there's no tomorrow. She plans to pursue a career in sustainable agriculture and food justice advocacy.
