New on ICTV: Poutine on the Fritz

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Ithaca chapter.

Poutine, if you think about it, sounds kind of gross.

A traditional Canadian dish (and still common with our Northern neighbors), poutine is a dish that consists of French fries topped with gravy and cheese curd.  It’s also the inspiration for ICTV’s newest television show.

Poutine on the Fritz is a spring 2012 ICTV field show that tells the what-if story of a scenario you’ve probably joked about before… a Canadian-American War.  The story follows Piper Quinn and her best friend Dirk as they become involved in a nefarious plot that involves Canadian sleeper agents, nuclear warfare, and the dreaded, dreaded poutine.  Leading her friends into the center of the conflict, Piper tries to get the guy and save the world.

What I’m especially excited for (besides the premiere of the show) is its use of a female heroine.  In a lot of ICTV shows, like Almost College, SWEAT, and The Boy Bandfeature strong male protagonists.  While there are female characters, they generally serve the role as romantic interest.  Other previous ICTV shows like IVY, To a Pulp, and B.S. Dectectives feature strong ensemble casts (with characters of both genders), but are not driven by a female character.

Poutine has a chance to start a trend of shows that feature a strong female protagonist, and I don’t know how all of you Collegiettes feel, but this is a really exciting concept to me!  Call me a hose, but I can’t wait to see the finished product.

Andrew Rivard and Aimee Rizzo, who serve as both the producers and the screenwriters, have created an action-packed comedy that all college students can find enjoyable, if not necessarily relatable.  (Unless you’ve taken on a group of Canadian sleeper agents.  If yes, then you and I should talk.)

So how about it?  Can Piper save her friends, find romance, and save the world?  Guess you’ll just have to watch Poutine on the Fritz to find out!
