Lulu Ward

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Ithaca chapter.

This week’s campus cutie is Angelique “Lulu” Ward, who hails from Harare, Zimbabwe, Southern Africa. A natural athlete, she loves to swim and play field hockey. However, her interests span much further than just athletics; she also enjoys playing music in the worship band on campus, reading different books, going camping in the bush, playing the guitar and singing. We had the privilege of talking to Lulu about why she’s here at Ithaca College, what she looks for in a significant other, and much, much more!

HC: Why did you come to Ithaca College?
LW: To expand my knowledge of world issues so that I can make more informed decisions when I am involved in serving back at home.

HC: What has been the hardest part of being away from home for you?
LW: Understanding culturally what is normal. I also really miss my parents; my parents are like two of my best friends. It’s been kind of a journey to understand what’s normal and what’s the same.

HC: What are some of the things that you are involved with here at IC?
LW: I’m an RA, I work in the chapel as an office assistant, I play field hockey, and I’m involved in the Protestant Community Worship committee (the leadership), which involves playing and organizing worship on Wednesday and Sunday night [for the Protestant Community.]

HC: What are three things that someone who just met you wouldn’t know about you?
LW: I have a brother that is 6’9″. I am not British. I swam for the national team in Zimbabwe and I hold a Southern Africa record.

HC: What do you do with your spare time in campus?
LW: Spare time? [Laughs.] What spare time? I skype with my family and my friends back home or else there probably wouldn’t be able to talk to them at all.

HC: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
LW: Somewhere on the continent of Africa. Probably in Zimbabwe. Serving the Lord in some area of development. Education or community development on some level, I hope.

HC: What do you look for in a significant other?
LW: That he loves the Lord more than he will ever love me or like me. I also look for someone who is easy going and mature with a crazy sense of humor. And the ability to socialize and love others sincerely.

HC: What life mantra do you live by?
LW: The thing that I remember is that I don’t live for this world – I put my hope for one day being in heaven. While enjoying the joys of this world and puting my all in what I do, I don’t hold onto things. I like the Bible verse, Hebrews 11:6, “But as it is, they desire a better county that is a heavenly one. Therefore, God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared for them a city.”
