How To Survive Living at Home for the Summer

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Ithaca chapter.

Besides the times that you work if you have a job, this is really a great time to hang out with your family. You can, of course do things without them, but make sure you plan quality time with them.

How to get a Break from your Family

Apply for jobs

They’ll keep you busy! You can also volunteer (I would recommend an animal shelter because CUTENESS)

Go to the beach with friends

It’s a nice daylong activity to get out of the house. You can relax and have fun at the same time with people you don’t always see every day (including at college).

Start a new Netflix show

Just don’t binge watch a series within a couple of days (I know that’s hard to do). You’ll at least have the show to look forward to watching every day or so!

Start a new Video game

If it’s something of interest to you, starting a new video can be really fun! My sister let me start a new game on her Switch for Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, but you don’t have to start a new story game. You can always buy a cheaper game like Let’s Dance for you and your friends to play all summer!

Start a YouTube channel

I’ll be doing it too! You can talk about thing you like, do hair or makeup tutorials, do challenges with friends, or vlog about summer adventures! It’s not only fun but it’s also a good way of saving memories.

Go for a run

I’m not a big runner, but when I go home I occasionally will do some loops around my neighborhood. Let me just tell you it relieves so much stress, and I feel so energized and at peace at the same time when I’m done. I can just picture going for a run, then taking a nice shower, and then eating dinner with the fam outside on a nice day…ahhhh.

How to enjoy the time spent with your Family

Remember, your family loves you. While we all need our breaks sometimes, it’s important to spend time with them with the few months you have at home!

Make dinner/Go out to dinner with your parents

You might as well appreciate some good food while you’re home from college!! Put on some jams if you’re cooking at home, or choose a restaurant that everybody loves!

Have family game/movie night

Guaranteed laughter and fun times, just don’t get overly competitive…we all know how that would turn out!

Go to a place you all love

Have memories of a place you and you family often visited when you were growing up? Go there! You can also buy some cute trinkets while you’re there.
