Jennifer Lawrence fell, Michelle Obama presented via live stream, and Kristen Stewart showed up on crutches. It may sound a whole like a celebrity circus but it was the Oscars, the Super Bowl of award shows.
While it is always a guess who is going to walk out with a golden man at the end night, the fashion of the night is even more of a wonder until the celebs step out on the red carpet. Let’s talk about Best Actress winner Jennifer Lawrence first. The 22 year-old showed up in a strapless Dior Haute Couture gown and rocked a silver clutch with a Chopard jeweled necklace, which hung perfectly down the Oscar winner’s back. Lawrence looked elegant, however, I wouldn’t deem her best dressed of the night. That honor goes to both Charlize Thereon and Amy Adams. Charlize Thereon wore her short pixie cut beautifully as she rocked just face in a long white gown also by Dior Haute Couture. Amy Adams was a modern day Carrie Bradshaw in a feathered full-length gray hued gown, with pulled back hair and teardrop earrings. These two really stole the show and were true Oscar winners in terms of style.
Last year Angelina Jolie’s leg had it’s own twitter account before she was half way down the red carpet. This year that award goes to Anne Hathaway for her Prada gown, which made her look a bit ‘nippy’ to say the least. She told reporters, “It was the one that spoke to me” after choosing the gown just three hours before the show. The twitter world spoke too, creating an account titled AnneHathawayNipples within minutes of Hathaway appearing on the red carpet.
Other fashion faux pas of the night include reality star Brandi Glanville who decided to let everything out with a dress that barely covered her chest and slip so high the world was seeing a whole more than we ever asked for. The high slit continued with Jennifer Hudson who simply tried too hard and ended up noticeably failing. Nicole Kidman almost got the sequin look right, but failed due to an overwhelming amount of embellishments.
Michelle Obama on the other hand, scored in the sequin department. With blunt bangs and simply jewelry, the First Lady rocked her Oscar look from across the coast. Jennifer Aniston was also a welcoming surprise in a strapless red Valentino gown. Her fiancé Justin Theroux was the perfect arm candy in a stunning Ferragamo tux. They were almost the cutest couple of the night until Channing Tatum and his pregnant wife, Jenna Dewan, showed up glowing in future parent bliss.
Awards show season fashion may have come to a close with the Oscars; however, the fashion news doesn’t stop here. I’m just getting started. Keep up with my opinions and the latest in fashion trends from me, each week here on Her Campus.
