Caitlyn Jenner Announced as New H&M Model

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Ithaca chapter.

Caitlyn Jenner is following in her famous family’s footsteps by starring in a new ad campaign for H&M Sport. The influential partnership was announced on the star’s Instagram with a behind-the-scenes post captioned, “Backstage with H&M. Can’t wait to show you more of this inspiring and amazing line.” Jenner’s collaboration with the company serves to benefit the transgender community by bringing greater visibility and representation of trans individuals to mainstream society. This campaign is just another instance in which the fashion industry is striving to promote greater diversity amongst models.

Athletic wear isn’t the only realm of fashion with which Caitlyn has dabbled. Recently, the former Olympian partnered with MAC Cosmetics to create her own lipstick shade, Finally Free, that will hit stores in early April. All profits from the aptly titled product will go to the MAC AIDS Fund Transgender Initiative. In an interview with MAC about her campaign, Jenner affirmed, “I’m free. I woke up the other morning, and I was just happy. Getting dressed, going out, I’m accepted in the world; people are nice. Life is good. I’m Finally Free.” This newfound feeling of freedom radiates from Caitlyn in the images released from both of her glamorous shoots for MAC and H&M.

Caitlyn’s work in the fashion industry has been aimed at bringing acceptance and support to the rest of the transgender community. It is so refreshing to see an individual using their fame and influence to serve as an advocate for important issues in the way that Jenner has. Hopefully, these efforts will have a positive societal effect, enabling increasing numbers of individuals to be Finally Free.
