During the colder months, our skin tends to dry out and feel less healthy than it does in summer. However, the culprit of dry “winter” skin is predominantly a lack of humidity in the air outside, which we can’t do much about. But what we can do is give our skin the love it deserves when it isn’t feeling its best. Enjoy this list of five easy, DIY face masks from ingredients you probably have in your kitchen!

1. Hydrating (For dry skin)

Ingredients:

  • Plain regular yogurt, not fat-free (three teaspoons)
  • Raw honey (three teaspoons)
  • Half of a banana, mashed

Directions:

Mix all the ingredients together evenly and apply all over your face, avoiding eyes and mouth. Leave the mask on for about 10-15 minutes, then rinse off with cool water.

2. Exfoliating (To reduce texture)

This one is more of a face scrub as opposed to a mask in order to remove the dead skin cells from your face.

Ingredients:

  • Coffee grounds (¼ cup)
  • Coconut oil (¼ cup)
  • Raw sugar, brown or white (1/8 cup)

Directions:

Mix all the ingredients together evenly and massage all over your face, avoiding eyes and mouth. You should experience the sugar and coffee grounds as having a scrubbing effect. Massage for about one minute, then rinse with cool water.

3. Soothing (For red, irritated skin)

Ingredients:

  • Pure aloe vera: either from the plant itself or a store-bought gel (one teaspoon)
  • Cucumber juice: squeeze a cut-up cucumber to get the desired effect (one teaspoon)
  • Raw honey (½ teaspoon)

Directions:

Mix all the ingredients together evenly and apply all over your face, avoiding eyes and mouth. Leave the mask on for about 10-15 minutes, then rinse with cool water.

4. Calming (As a nighttime mask)

This face mask option might be a little harder to make for those who don’t have essential oils on hand, like rose or lavender. However, this mask can still calm your skin without the oils.

Ingredients:

  • Raw honey (½ teaspoon)
  • Milk, heated if necessary (½ teaspoon)
  • Lavender or rose essential oil (1-2 drops, or until desired intensity)

Directions:

Mix all the ingredients together evenly and apply all over your face, avoiding eyes and mouth. Leave the mask on for about 10-15 minutes, then rinse with cool water.

5. Brightening (For dull skin)

Ingredients:

  • Plain regular yogurt (one tablespoon)
  • Lemon juice (½ teaspoon)

Directions:

Mix all the ingredients together evenly and apply all over your face, avoiding eyes and mouth. Leave the mask on for about 20-30 minutes, then rinse with cool water.
