Three Taxi Driver Horror Stories

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Inter SG chapter.

These days public transportation is a very useful way for us to travel around. It’s cheaper than having your own car, reduces air pollution because there’s less cars around, reduces traffic, increases the ability to move around, it creates jobs, etc. There are many options for us to move around, like using the bus, the train, the cab, and the most popular right now: Uber. It’s a fact that collective transportation is a very good option for many people who need a lift or people who are looking for a job and know how to drive. The problem is that some people, whether they  are drivers or clients, take this as an opportunity to do harm or just unpredictable things to others. Some stories are very sad and scary, and some are just insane. Here are three stories about taxi drives that are so  incredible, it’s hard to believe that they’re real. Disclaimer, on some stories we will not share any names for the security of the people who wanted to share their story.

Luis Gregorio Ramirez

Mr. Gregorio was a very sinister man who was the nightmare of many taxi drivers in Colombia. He was a serial killer who strangled more than 60 people from 2007 to 2012. His victims were all taxi drivers. He used a rope to strangle the drivers from the back seat and even preferred thin people because they were easier to kill. None of his victims survived and he is still considered  one of the most dangerous serial killers in Colombia.

Stabbed in the back

It was 1:00 am and Max, name that we are going to use for the sake of protecting his identity, was driving around, waiting to be called for service. He then received a call from a couple of girls who needed a ride home. He explains that the ride wasn’t different or suspicious. The girls were drunk and they were just mumbling crazy stuff; something normal for a drunk person. Everything was fine until they reached their destination. As soon as he stopped the car, one of them stabbed him in the back multiple times. Thankfully, the police arrived and he wasn’t hurt badly, but they checked the dash cam and it showed that throughout the ride, the girls were doing gun gestures at him and making it seem like they were killing him.

David Berkowitz, the son of Sam

In 1970’s New York, there was a serial killer called the son of Sam. His real name was David Berkowitz and he was the most wanted man during that time. His method of killing was very simple, he only used a revolver, but he used all the bullets on his victims leaving a very traumatic scene at the end. He was very different from Gregorio. Not only in the way of killing, but while Gregorio killed taxi drivers, Berkowitz was the taxi driver who killed his clients on the road. “I love to hunt. Prowling the streets, looking for fair game-tasty meat. The women of Queens are prettiest of all” – Berkowitz.

These stories are very disturbing and can serve as a reminder to always stay vigilant. There are good people in the world but it’s always good to stay alert in case something happens. The police are always giving safety tricks for these situations: like always letting someone know where you are, if you’re drunk at least have someone with you, having pepper spray, and always be vigilant. It’s always important to have fun, but be safe.
