Netflix has released some amazing shows and movies this year. Here are my top 3 movies and shows, in no particular order, that have been recently released that definitely have caused me to stray from studying for midterms.

Heartbreak High

Released: September 14th, 2022
Rating: TV-MA
Length: 8 episodes of about 60 minutes
Description: Heartbreak High is a reboot of an Australian teen drama from the 90’s which follows the lives of students who discover their names to be drawn on a hidden map within the school that charts every hook-up (in detail) in the school. Amerie, the creator behind this map, attempts to repair her tainted reputation while navigating love, sex, and heartbreak. The map does not go forgotten throughout the show, as the students listed on the map face repercussions by being forced into a Sexual Literacy Program with each other.
Personal Opinion: The show is so enticing because it doesn’t just focus on Amerie, but the people who were affected by her map, and all the different consequences they faced. The combination of comedy and lack of censorship makes it rank high on my all time favorites list!

Do Revenge

Released: September 16th, 2022
Rating: TV-MA
Length: 1h 58m
Description: Popular girl and queen bee Drea has her world shattered when her boyfriend releases her sex tape at their posh private school, and she ends up becoming the school’s social outcast. Meanwhile, new girl Eleanor, who has experience become a social outcast, continues to be haunted by a rumor, even after starting her senior year at a new school. The girls team up and strike a deal to get revenge on each other’s enemies.
Personal Opinion: Critics have raved about this movie and it has gotten many great reviews, and while I personally have not watched it, the mystery behind it, along with the promised comedy, makes me eager to find time to watch this movie. The cast is full of well-known actors such as Camila Mendes and Maya Hawke, so I am sure it will be a worthwhile watch!

Fakes

Released: September 2nd, 2022
Rating: TV-MA
Length: 10 episodes of about 25 minutes
Description: Zoe and Becca, teenage best friends, become interested in fake ID’s when Zoe acquires one to buy alcohol. They end up spiraling into accidentally creating their own fake ID empire, which actually becomes one of the biggest fake ID empires. As things begin to quickly crumble to the ground, these girl bosses quickly realize their life of crime became way too real.
Personal Opinion: I have only just begun to watch the show, but so far I think it’s a quick and entertaining show if you want something to watch. The show jumps right into the storyline and the thrill of the plot, along with the comedy and drama makes it a good watch. If you are into shows with major cliffhangers that leave you wanting more, this show is for you!
