Ah, Valentine’s Day, either your favorite or least favorite day of the year. Whether it is spent with a significant other, a group of friends, your family, or by yourself, there are so many fun and creative ways to spread your love. What better way is there to show someone you care about them than to do it from scratch? Here are some unique ways to show your holiday spirit, regardless of how you are celebrating.

1. Write a card or a note.

What better way to tell someone you care about them than to write a letter manifesting it. This is something that is so simple, yet the message behind it goes much further than you would expect. I have kept every card I have ever gotten and know that this is something I will continue to appreciate years and years down the road. Write from your heart and be honest with yourself and with the recipient. Finding the right words can take time, yet they will always come to you when the time is right.

2. Make a gift basket.

I love baskets, especially when they are customized. Any gift basket can be bought from a store and filled with goods, but taking on the steps to truly find each and every thing that your recipient loves will mean so much to them. While this does involve buying some items, customizing what goes in the basket is the most heartfelt gift one could ever receive. I was gifted a basket of my favorite things over the winter holidays and nearly cried; I don’t think I ever expected someone to put that much effort into a gift for me.

3. Quality time.

This is pulled directed from love language quizzes everywhere, and this may not apply to everyone, but spending time with your loved ones, and even yourself, is the best gift you can receive. Remove all technology and really appreciate the moment you are in. I have found so much success with this in numerous instances, being present with company shows the respect and care that you have for one another, and that feeling is invaluable.

4. Make a meal together.

Cooking together can teach you so much about a person in terms of their structure and teamwork abilities. Baking dessert or making pancakes is so fun, as it is the true definition of “have your cake and eat it too”. You get to be creative together and try something new. Whether you make a homemade recipe or follow from scratch, this is such a fun experience that usually ends well, and if not, order a pizza, the memories will still be there.

5. Date night jar.

Make a bucket list together of things you want to do individually and with each other. This can be done individually or with someone else. Jot down some personal goals you have for yourself, for your group or your significant other. This is something that not only helps you learn about each other, but also helps you hold one another accountable.

Overall, Valentine’s Day can often be a hard day for people. There are so many ways to take advantage of the holiday, regardless of who you are spending it with. Spreading love and happiness is a small thing that can change someone’s day.
