This week is HUGE for all of you music fans! First of all, if you didn’t catch the performances by Lea Michele from Glee, Christina Aguilera’s “remix” of the Star Spangled Banner, or the star-studded half time show, all of those videos are uploaded on You Tube and several news sites so check them out. Needless to say, Super Bowl XLV was epic from start to finish. In Christina Aguilera’s case, however, it was an epic fail.
The five time Grammy award-winning singer started belting out the national ant
hem harmoniously and with serious soul, as usual. It wasn’t until halfway through the song when she completely skipped “O’er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming” and decided to do a little mashup with “What so proudly we watched at the twilight’s last reaming.”
Ouch. I’m sure Christina wishes she could ask that “Genie In A Bottle” to take her off stage and to some deserted island far, far away. As I was watching, I knew there was something slightly off about it and soon enough Twitter was flooded by people questioning the lyrics. As devastating and embarrassing as this was for her career, I have to say Christina sounded great. She really is one of the best female vocalists of our generation so she’ll bounce back from this sure enough.
The half time show was truly a sight to see. Everything from the production, dancers, to the surprise guest appearances was great. Many people may disagree, but The Black Eyed Peas along with Slash and Usher put on a great show. While many people may have liked to see a classic rock band or a more contemporary act, the NFL obviously wanted to appeal to a younger crowd and provide the audience with an exhilarating show.
After the Janet Jackson slip up, this was their first attempt at rejuvenating the halftime show performance since we all saw Janet’s “lady lump”. Slash popping out on stage and shredding on the guitar next to Fergie was definitely a highlight. Yes, maybe Fergie needed a little fine-tuning, but in her defense the sound quality was off for the entire show and her mic was fading in and out. I think my roommate let out a shriek of joy when Usher came down from thin air to say a couple of “OMGs”. Overall, the show was entertaining, exciting, and modern. The intense, action packed half time performance was only appropriate for what proved to be an equally intense game.
The 53rd Annual GRAMMY Awards ceremony is this Sunday, February 13th on CBS starting at 7PM! This year’s nominees have all had a great year with singles and new albums. Here are my picks to win in the 4 big categories:

Lady Antebellum should be a big winner in multiple categories this Sunday. I think “Love The Way You Lie”, Katy Perry, and Lady Gaga will win in others such as best rap duo, and pop performances.
This Friday will be a huge day for Lady Gaga fans when she releases her single on the air a couple of days before it’s official release date. This will be another “Hold It Against Me” type of deal where the radio will be playing at the top of every hour. I’ve heard the single and if the rest of her album sounds like this you will not be disappointed!
Last but not least, this Friday will be a night you won’t want to miss at The Red Lion. Hoodie Allen, who has been featured in my blogs in the past, is finally hitting our campus to play a show alongside Milk N Cookies. I talked to Hoodie Allen and asked him why people should come see him perform: “People should come because seeing a Hoodie Allen show makes you a better person and give you healing powers.”- Hoodie Allen
Big words from this up and coming rapper, but I’m sure he won’t disappoint. Tickets are only $7.
