We’re in the final stretch for we’ve all been waiting so desperately for – summer break. Summer is full of warm weather and happiness, but let’s face it, it can get boring for those of us who aren’t at an internship or on a vacation. Here are some of my best tips for combating summer boredom.

1. Spend Time with Family

One of the biggest things that college has taught me is the importance of family. They are there for you through thick and thin, and it’s important to spend time with them. It’s easy to fall apart while being at college for so long, so use this time to call a family member to catch up when you’re feeling bored this summer.

2. Get Your Body Right

While you’re in college, it’s easy to fall behind on your workout routine and diet. Summer break is the perfect opportunity to get back in the gym and tone those muscles up! You can also take advantage of the beautiful weather and take your dog on a walk or run outside. Exercise is so good for you, and you’ll impress everyone in the fall with your new and improved summer bod!

3. Give Back

When you’re thinking of what to do this summer, consider volunteering at a local organization. I always feel great knowing that I’ve done something that helps others, and there are so many different ways to give back to the community.  It will also help to build your resume, so it’s a win-win!

4. Get Ahead on School

I know that the best thing about summer break is not having to do homework, however, it can be a good idea to get a jumpstart on some of your classes. Consider taking a class this summer, or preparing for the classes that you have in the fall. Trust me, your future self will thank you.

5. Learn Something New

Summer is the perfect opportunity to learn a new skill. With all of the time you have, you can easily teach yourself how to cook a new dish or DIY something. Trying new things can also teach you more about yourself and your passions, so try to learn something new when you don’t have anything to do!

Be proud of yourself for making it through another school year and enjoy your break. I hope you’ll make this summer a great one and consider doing some of these things!
