A Successful Semester

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Illinois chapter.

Every girl wants to come back to Champaign with a higher level of confidence to tackle whatever stresses another semester at the university may bring. A successful semester takes some preparation; luckily summer is the perfect time to work on the factors that will make your semester great, socially and academically.

Don’t go down the same paths that have led you to failure and unwanted stress in previous semesters. Learn from mistakes you made in past semesters and look back on the choices you have made while thinking of what sticky situations could have been avoided. Steer clear of the guys who caused nothing but tears and unnecessary drama, dodge pointless arguments with friends and keep up with the classes you know will be tough. The one good thing about mistakes is that you can learn from them and make your future better, so take advantage of them.

When you look your best, you feel your best. Try a new style, do your makeup and hair differently all summer. The summer is the best time to experiment, so by the time you get back to school you know which looks you can rock and which ones you should leave behind without looking back. Hit the gym and get a healthy diet. There is no better way to get back at the guy who hurt you last semester than coming back to school with a hot body and a new level of confidence. You’ll be turning heads on Green Street by the time you get back to school.

Be open to new experiences that come with a new semester. Break the routine you developed in previous semesters. Talk to people you normally wouldn’t, take classes you didn’t have time to before, go to bars and parties you normally wouldn’t last semester and join different clubs you might have paid no attention to on Quad Day last year. You will be surprised how much fun you can have breaking your old comfortable routine. Breaking old routines can have a huge impact on you as a person; the new experiences and people that come into your life will make you better-rounded. Everyone needs to break the routine to keep life interesting.

Leave what happened last semester in last semester. Any drama that you had with friends or guys is not worth rehashing. A drama-free life is a stress-free life. You have more important things to worry about than petty arguments that happened four months ago. Concentrate on doing well in your classes, getting closer with your friends, making new friends and finding a new guy better than the last.

A new semester brings new beginnings, enjoy it. Take the summer to make yourself the best you can be so when school comes around, you’ll be feeling good, looking great and excelling in you classes while being active in the social scene.
