So Long Sweatpants: 3 Cute but Comfy Outfits You Can Wear to Class

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Illinois chapter.

College is the time when you roll out of bed for class and then get all dolled up to go out at night. Typically, we just don’t spend a ton of time getting ready during the day. Sweatpants or yoga pants are our favorite comfortable and class appropriate items of clothing, but just because you want to be cozy doesn’t mean you need to sacrifice style. Here are some new go-to comfy class outfits to swap out with those ratty old sweatpants!

Outfit 1: Cardigan and Skinny Jeans

A cardigan and jeans combination is a classic casual outfit which isn’t that much harder to throw on than a pair of sweatpants and a T-shirt and it looks ten times more polished and put-together. One great thing about this look is that you can make it as casual and comfortable or as styled and fashionable as you want.

If you’re feeling lazy, just wear one of your favorite graphic tees underneath a cardigan and finish your look off with a pair of converse or booties. The result will be super comfortable, but it will also look like you put at least a little effort into your morning look.

If you really want to go the extra mile though, you can dress this look up as well. Pair the cardigan with a pretty, delicate tank and a long, dangly necklace. Then put on a pair of cute flats and walk out the door!

Outfit 2: Maxi Skirt and T-shirt

I know we live in Illinois, so a maxi skirt doesn’t make sense when there’s a bunch of snow on the ground, but once the snow melts, pull out your maxi skirt ASAP! Maxi skirts are debatably more comfortable than sweatpants given that one, they aren’t pants, and two, their length gives them the upper hand on any other kind of skirt because there’s no fuss or worry about accidentally flashing someone or not crossing your legs at all times. Above all, though, maxi skirts are actually fashionable, unlike your favorite pair of sweatpants.

To turn your maxi skirt into a comfy class look you’ll love, pair it with a baggy tee or tank knotted right at your waist. In the cooler months, throw on a cropped denim or leather jacket. This look is comfortable and easy to throw on!

Outfit 3: T-shirt dress and Anorak jacket

For sweatpants lovers, wearing a dress to class probably sounds miserable, but hear me out. A dress is just one item of clothing that you need to throw on making it a super simple, stylish alternative to your favorite sweatpants and T-shirt combination. Plus, a T-shirt dress is soft and casual so you won’t feel like you’re out of place wearing a dress to class. Toss on a military inspired anorak jacket and a pair of sandals and you’re ready!

In the winter months, you can still get away with wearing a dress to class (as long as it’s not absolutely freezing). Just wear a pair of thick wool tights underneath the dress and grab your favorite pair of booties. Instead of your lightweight anorak jacket, opt for something heavier like a toggle coat!

So stop making excuses like “It’s too hard to look cute for class” or “I’d rather sleep than look cute” because these outfits are proof that you can do both! Looking cute and putting in hours of effort doesn’t have to be synonymous! These simple, cute outfits are just as comfortable as your favorite sweatpants, so save those guys for the gym and try out one of these go-to comfy class outfits!
