Re-Cap of the Second Annual, “Walking in a Winter Glamourland”

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Illinois chapter.

Her Campus Illinois celebrated their second annual “Walking in A Winter Glamourland” event last Thursday, Dec. 5. HC staff and guests filled The Clybourne on campus for drinks, food and entertainment. A total of $1,200 was raised, which will all be donated to the Northwestern Settlement House in Chicago. Children involved in the organization sent Her Campus Illinois a Christmas wish list, and gifts were purchased, wrapped and sent from Champaign to Chicago to fulfill their Holiday season.

Throughout the night, performances from two University of Illinois acapella groups, The Girls Next Door and The Extension Chords, entertained guests. A new addition to the entertainment was Molly Rohan, who performed her first of many-to-come standup comedy sketches.

As the crowd enjoyed the event’s entertainment, a series of raffle winners were drawn. Winners received gifts such as Victoria’s Secret PINK gear, JAL jewelry from and even a signed basketball from the 2013-2014 Chicago Bulls.

Local businesses also came out for the event, including Urbana’s new boutique Fira, featuring the new season sweaters and accessories. Her Campus Illinois head photographer, Bekah Hakimian, also presented her handmade jewelry at the event.

Many local and national businesses provided product for our attendees! Pizzas were provided by EatCU. Skinny Pop and Pretzel Crisp provided bags perfect for on-the-go. Neuro sent us lots of Wild Berry to help us focus during finals time. Diet Coke also provided special edition, Taylor Swift cans. Also, Monster cans were the parting gift at the end of the night! A big thanks to all of our sponsors – we could not have reached our goal without you!

Her Campus Illinois’ annual event kicked off the holiday season here at the University of Illinois and reminded guests that giving back to the local communities is the most important thing to remember during the most wonderful time of the year.
