There is certain music that just screams summer. This season, whether you’re heading out on the town, soaking up the sunshine, or even just driving around with all the windows rolled down, be sure to check out these three albums.

If you’re gearing up for a big night out, pop in the Hood Internet’s Mixtape Volume Five. The Hood Internet is made up of two guys from Chicago that specialize in making killer mash-ups. Their songs often combine the chill beats and instrumentals of an alternative-indie song with the rap from a popular hip-hop single, putting a fun twist on the chart topping songs we all know and love and bringing those summer nights to life. One of my favorites from the album joins songs by Free Energy and Drake to make “This Shit Was (All I Know)”. It features Drake rapping over the happy-go-lucky instrumentals of the Free Energy song “All I Know”. This song has versatile elements that can either make for a laid back evening, or a party you won’t forget. And the best part, this album is free. Just check out The Hood Internet on Twitter, or search them on Google and you will be directed to a link where you can download away!

The second must have summer album is the Summertime! by The Drums. This is definitely a beach CD, complete with catchy beats and infectious choruses that will make you forget about the heat and soak up the sun in peace. There’s even a song on the album titled “Let’s Go Surfing” which is sure to get you out of that beach chair and into the waves. Most of the songs on the album are upbeat and fun, but “Down By the Water” slows things down. The sentimental love song that will leave you pining for The Drums as your new summer love.

The last album for these sweet summer days is Beirut’s Lon Gisland E.P. Beirut is an eclectic band that incorporates many different instruments into their music including the ukulele, trumpet, French horn, accordion, and trombone. The combination of all of these instruments working together creates a whimsical melody fit for a beautiful summer day.

Side note: both The Drums and Beirut are playing at Lollapalooza this summer, so I encourage you all to mark both down as a must see at the festival!

Emily Cleary is a 22-year-old news-editorial journalism major hoping to work in the fashion industry, whether that be in editorial, marketing, PR or event planning is TBD. With internships at Teen Vogue and StyleChicago.com, it's clear that she is a fashion fanatic. When she's not studying (she's the former VP of her sorority, Delta Delta Delta), writing for various publications or attending meetings for clubs like Business Careers in Entertainment Club, Society of Professional Journalists, The Business of Fashion Club, or for her role as the Assistant Editor of the Arts & Entertainment section of her school's magazine, she's doing something else; you will never find her sitting still. She loves: running (you know those crazy cross-country runners...), attending concerts and music festivals, shopping (of course), hanging out with friends, visiting her family at home, traveling (she studied abroad in London when she was able to travel all over Europe), taking pictures, tweeting, reading stacks and stacks of magazines and newspapers while drinking a Starbuck's caramel light frappacino, blogs and the occasional blogging, eating anything chocolate and conjuring up her next big project. Living just 20 minutes outside of Chicago, she's excited to live there after graduation, but would love to spend some time in New York, LA, London or Paris (she speaks French)!
