The weekend has passed and with it so has the talk of numerous parties and the fourth football game of the season. But the most talked about event was DayGlow, a giant paint party held in Danville, Illinois.
The day started off with me and my friends ripping up old white shirts before putting them on with a pair of shorts. We left our dorms and walked to Wright and Daniel, the location where the buses would be. As we walked we were able to numerous groups walking towards the same location. All the guys had on white while the girls were dressed in ripped shirts and neon colored bras.
When we reached the intersection for the buses, there was one huge crowd of people waiting for the buses. For some people the wait was long for others it was short. With the buses filled with excited college students, they left for Danville. The ride was about half an hour and on our way there, it started to rain but not heavily, only enough to get people wet.
When reaching the final destination, once again there was a crowd waiting to get inside. Once inside, there were already long lines to the bathrooms and groups of people waiting for their friends to find them. The upbeat techno music, which I am not a big fan of, could be heard in the lobby. When entering the area where the party was held, there was already a large group of people dancing. When trying to get as close to the stage as possible, my group was split up. What happened when the rest of the audience entered was ridiculous.
Everyone was throwing paint on everything and everyone. It didn’t matter if you threw paint on someone you didn’t know; they would most likely turn around and thank you. Most of the heavy painting, though, was done by the staff with huge paint guns near the stage.
A party like this one was not meant for people to worry about what they looked like. It allowed everyone to look and act however they wanted. With the way some people looked, it looked like they went swimming in a bucket of different colors of paint. When the DJ came on he said the party was about love and unity, which is true, especially when everyone was stripped of their self-consciousness and looked the same as everyone else.
One major complaint about the party was you had to buy your own bottles of paint to use. One bottle cost $5 which is a bit expensive, but if you got lucky there were staff members walking around handing out free bottles of paint. The only other complaint I have is getting paint in your eye, which burns really bad, but there really is nothing you can do to keep it from happening.
This party was a blast and I would most definitely go again and recommend it to more people.
