Winter break is one of the best things about being in college. We finish finals, are home for a few weeks, get to celebrate with our family, and are given days to relax. One of the better things about winter break is New Year’s Eve and celebrating it with friends and family. So, as we prepare for the end of the year, the best thing to do is listen to music meant for New Year’s Eve. I know there are still a few weeks but this is what we do, start celebrating holidays earlier than weshould be.Â
Â
1. Firework – Katy Perry
Firework by Katy Perry speaks for itself as to why it is a song for New Year’s Eve. I mean, just look at the title of the song. Yes, it is not really a new song but with its catchy melody and danceable beat; it’s hard not to listen to this as we all ring in the New Year.
2. Til the World Ends – Britney Spears
This is a pretty self explanatory song also. 2012 is supposedly the year that the world is suppose to end so why not do what Britney is telling you to do and that is to “keep on dancing till the world ends.”
3. Last Friday Night – Katy Perry
This year New Year’s Eve is, sadly, Saturday. This song came really close to being perfect for New Year’s Eve. Even though we will be celebrating this holiday on a Saturday, it is a playful song with funny and sexy lyrics to have fun dancing to.
4. Hey – Lil Jon
Just like the song says “we don’t want this night to end. We won’t sleep” and this is exactly how we will feel. Many of us will more than likely be out with friends or downtown Chicago, so we will more than likely spend the entire night up and eventually see the sun come up.
5. Sexy and I Know It – LMFAO
This has become one of the most popular songs recently among people our age. The best thing about this song, especially if you have seen the video, is it is one meant to be funny and is meant for dancing and goofing around to.
6. Give Me Everything – Pitbull
This is another good song for ringing in the year that the world is going to end. This song is basically saying that we should have as much fun as me can because “we might not get tomorrow.” With the amazing vocals of Ne-Yo, Nayer, and fun rapping of Pitbull, it is a powerful and catchy song that is one of the best songs to dance to.
7. Livin’ On a Prayer – Bon Jovi
Now this song is not really meant for New Year’s Eve, but it is meant for something else happening earlier in the day. What’s happening? The Fighting Illini bowl game against UCLA. So after we win, hopefully, the best way to celebrate would be listening to a song that we hear at the majority of our home football games.

Have a fun and happy New Year’s… and watch the football game!
