Alright everyone, it’s time to celebrate because the best season is almost upon us: fall! The first day of autumn is September 23, so it’s time to start preparing your list of fall activities. When you get back from your aesthetic pumpkin patch visits, apple orchard extravaganzas, and Halloween-themed hangouts, you’re going to want to relax and unwind. And what better way to do that than with a few movies? So, put on your comfiest sweatpants, grab your favorite snack, snuggle into your softest blanket, and prepare for a night of binging!
1. Hocus pocus
You can’t go wrong with this one, it’s a classic! Basically, a teenage boy wants to impress a girl, so he lights a candle that brings back a trio of sisters from the dead. But these aren’t your typical bickering siblings who fight over clothes and hair products. They love children (or rather, they love to suck the souls out of their bodies), they are extremely talented musicians (that can and will put a spell on you) and they have their very own personal assistant (that rises from the dead and will chase you down)! They also love reading in their free time, especially from their very own “Book of Spells” gifted by the devil himself. Between the witches and the beautiful autumn scenes of Salem, Massachusetts, you’ll definitely be feeling the fall vibes!
2. Good will hunting
This movie is so wholesome. It follows a 20-year-old genius named Will who grew up extremely poor. He takes a janitor job at MIT to pay the bills and one day, there’s an extremely difficult equation left on a chalkboard, and Will solves it. One of the MIT professors, Gerald Lambeau, wants to help Will reach his full potential. It’s truly an inspiring coming-of-age story, and the movie features the beauty of autumn in New England. Definitely a must-watch!
3. twilight
This movie doesn’t feature fall itself, but it is gloomy and aesthetically beautiful. It takes place in a small town in Washington, called Forks, where it’s always cloudy and obscure. The amazing movie soundtrack also adds to the general melancholic tone. Also, there are vampires in it, the kind that desire your heart more than your blood! And if you enjoy this movie, there are four more to immerse yourself into!
4. Sleepy hollow
This Tim Burton film follows the classic horror story tale of Ichabod Crane, played by Johnny Depp. If you aren’t familiar with the story, it takes place in an old American setting, and Ichabod is out one night and has a run in with a terrifying headless specter. The man urges his horse forward, chasing Ichabod throughout the old cemetery, trying to cut off his head. Not only is the story itself a fall vibe, Tim Burton is the master of establishing an eerie tone, leaving the audience immersed in the film. Much like Twilight, the aesthetic is gloomy and cold, but in a spookier way!
So, there you have it! A few honorable mentions are Coraline, It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown, and the eight amazing Harry Potter movies! I hope you all enjoy these, and have an amazing fall season!
