Latest and Greatest TV Series

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Illinois chapter.

I am so thankful to be spending so much time outdoors this summer (hasn’t it been beautiful?!) instead of sitting inside watching TV. If I had to watch one more Kardashian or Housewives rerun, I might have to do the unthinkable and consider watching Sarah Palin’s Alaska. Fortunately, with great new TV shows coming this fall as well as some highly anticipated returning series, we won’t have to suffer through another minute of Scott ‘Deadbeat-Dad’ Disick or — heaven forbid — a “you betcha!”

Grimm
Vampires? So 2010. The new supernatural is all about fairy tales. Grimm, premiering on NBC this fall, is part-crime, part-fantasy and all drama. In this exciting new series from the executive producer of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, fairy tales are closer to reality than anyone ever imagined – and there isn’t always a happily ever after. If you like the thrill of crime dramas, you will love the fairy tale twist in this new series. Tune in to NBC Friday, October 21st at 9/8c to see the premiere of Grimm.

Jersey Shore
This outrageous MTV reality show is so bad, but just so, so good – which is why it is my ultimate guilty pleasure and pick for the most anticipated returning series of the fall. The GTL crew took the U.S. by storm, entertaining millions and aggravating even more Italian Americans with their wild antics. Needless to say, I am dying to see what happens when Snooki, Deena, Jenni, Sammi, Ronnie, Vinny, Pauly and Sitch visit the old country! Watch it all go down from Florence, Italy on Thursday, August 4, at 10 p.m. ET/PT on MTV.

2 Broke Girls
2 Broke Girls is this fall’s go-to comedy. Think Two and a Half Men, except instead of Charlie and Alan, the dynamic duo is twenty-somethings Max and Caroline. The funny girls are – you guessed it – strapped for cash and work at a Manhattan restaurant to make ends meet. Still, they can hardly afford anything with the money they make as waitresses and must go to great lengths to make ends meet. This comedy looks absolutely hysterical, and comes close to home for us poor college girls with champagne taste on Burnett’s budgets. Grab the girls for the premiere on Monday, September 19 at 9:30 p.m. ET/PT on CBS.

H8R
I must admit, I love celebreality – reality shows in which the contestants are already celebs, not wannabes. Unfortunately, a decent celebreality show has been non-existent since VH1 replaced The Surreal Life with dry, depressing Celebrity Rehab – until now. This fall, CW is debuting H8R, a series in which celebrities confront their biggest haters – friends, family members or fans – and try to win them over. Imagining stars facing people who despise them and then taking their crude criticism sounds just too juicy to pass up. Did I mention A.C. Slater…ahem, I mean Mario Lopez is the host? Watch the celebrity humiliation ensue on Wednesday, September 14 on the CW at 8/7c.

Emily Cleary is a 22-year-old news-editorial journalism major hoping to work in the fashion industry, whether that be in editorial, marketing, PR or event planning is TBD. With internships at Teen Vogue and StyleChicago.com, it's clear that she is a fashion fanatic. When she's not studying (she's the former VP of her sorority, Delta Delta Delta), writing for various publications or attending meetings for clubs like Business Careers in Entertainment Club, Society of Professional Journalists, The Business of Fashion Club, or for her role as the Assistant Editor of the Arts & Entertainment section of her school's magazine, she's doing something else; you will never find her sitting still. She loves: running (you know those crazy cross-country runners...), attending concerts and music festivals, shopping (of course), hanging out with friends, visiting her family at home, traveling (she studied abroad in London when she was able to travel all over Europe), taking pictures, tweeting, reading stacks and stacks of magazines and newspapers while drinking a Starbuck's caramel light frappacino, blogs and the occasional blogging, eating anything chocolate and conjuring up her next big project. Living just 20 minutes outside of Chicago, she's excited to live there after graduation, but would love to spend some time in New York, LA, London or Paris (she speaks French)!
