Her Campus Illinois Presents “Walking In A Winter Glamourland”

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Illinois chapter.

Winter has arrived and aside from the unusual warm weather, Her Campus’ Walking in A Winter Glamourland was the perfect kickoff to the holiday season.

On Tuesday, November 27, the Her Campus Illinois staff and guests spent their evening in the second floor ballroom of the Illini Union to raise money for the Northwestern Settlement House in Chicago and enjoy campus entertainment, food and fun.

The first 30 guests were welcomed with swag bags filled with all kinds of goodies including bareMinerals makeup kits, Victoria’s Secret PINK lanyards, Ageless perfume and Bonfyre sunglasses.

As the live music played courtesy of DJ Jon Hahn, guests visited each of the booths where local businesses including IMPULSE magazine and EAT CU were promoting. Busy Wrists and Bekah Hakimian were selling their accessory products.

Complementary Monster drinks, Chobani yogurt, and LUNA bars were among the homemade treats for guests to snack on as well.

Senior Annadel Melendez said she enjoyed her time in the Glamourland and it was a great study break.

“I was excited to have a Monster. I had a lot of work this week with finals coming up, so it was a nice pick-me-up,” she said.

Monster, 5-Hour Energy and the all natural energy drink, Nawgawn were all available for guests and definitely boosted everyone’s holiday spirits.

Performances of the night included 3Spot dance troupe, who featured a hip hop piece

from their fall show, 3Spot Goes South of the Border. A Capella groups including Girls Next Door and The Other Guys also sang throughout the night featuring songs from their current concerts.

EAT CU marketing team member Nikki Baffin said that she was excited to be at the event too.

“I’m honored to be representing EAT CU, but I wish I could walk around and check everything else out too,” Baffin said. “This was a great turnout and everyone seems to be having a blast.”

In between performances, raffles were drawn. Each guest received a complementary raffle ticket but were also able to purchase as many tickets as they wanted in hopes of winning a prize. Prizes included gifts certificates from Zorba’s and Noodles and Company, jewelry from Tory Burch and Cuvvet and even two Chicago Bull’s tickets for the New Year’s Eve game against the Charlotte Bobcats. Another great holiday event that one lucky winner gets to enjoy!

Throughout all the raffle prizes, goodies and entertainment, this event would not be possible without spreading the awareness of the Northwestern Settlement House in Chicago.

“Northwestern Settlement nurtures, educates, and inspires children and families in need to take personal responsibility and attain self-sufficiency,” according the Mission Statement of the Northwestern Settlement House’s website.

Her Campus has been working with the organization to fulfill a group of underprivileged children’s Christmas dreams come true. All the proceeds will go towards buying presents on their wish lists.

Melendez said that it warms her heart helping out children who still want to have a Merry Christmas.

“Thinking about all the extravagant gifts kids want these days, it can be easy to get caught up in it all  sometimes,” she said. “It’s nice to know I made a difference in a child’s life who doesn’t have all the privileges other people in this world do.”

Her Campus raised $1,800 for the Northwestern Settlement House in Chicago, ensuring everyone’s holidays will be filled with happiness, comfort and joy.
