This article is for the single ladies. Your February 14th does not have to be spent all alone and wishing that you have a partner. Instead of wallowing, go grab your single bestie and celebrate. Without further adieu, let’s jump into how to make the perfect Galentine’s Day.

Ask the Question

Yes, I know that this is Galentine’s Day but ask your bestie to be yours. Be as extravagant and as extra as you want. Pull out the red and pink construction paper and the glitter to make her a homemade card. Who doesn’t love a homemade card, right? For this Galentine’s Day, I’m going all out on the card for my bestie.

This is not required for an amazing card, but you can write a sweet note to them. Tell them what their friendship means to you. If you aren’t a sentimental person, then write something funny. Gas them up. Write something

The Gift

I know we’re all college students here but gift your galentine a little something. You don’t have to go out and buy them an expensive gift. You could treat them to a coffee or buy their favorite treats/snacks. Furthermore, you can get creative by hand-making a gift or by baking something.

The gift is not the important part of the day, but it will make your bestie smile. While I cannot share my gift ideas for my own Galentine, I will share some ideas below for gifts of your own.

The Actual Day

Plan out and make a bestie date for you and her. Put some thought into it. Make the time you two spend together memorable and amazing. If you aren’t sure where to begin, then continue reading.

For the activities, I recommend going out and about during the day and spending the latter part of the day at home. While out, you can shop, get your nails done, try out a new coffee shop, take a yoga/pilates class, etc. At home, you can bake, paint canvas, watch some movies, cook together, play a game, etc.

Since you guys are going to spend a while together, you have to consider what you guys are going to do for food. I recommend going out for one meal and cooking the other. Moreover, it might be best to get lunch while you’re out and about, and then try a new recipe later that day. Most importantly, what are you guys going to have for dessert? Are you going to make it or create decadent ice cream sundaes?

While it’s important to live in the moment, I think you should take a few pictures to remember the time that you guys had. You don’t have to take pictures to post on Instagram but for you guys to remember the day.

While February 14th might seem only for couples, it’s for all of the close relationships in your life. So this Valentine’s Day, tell your family and friends how much you appreciate and care about them. Spread the love this Valentine’s Day.

Autumn Bunzell

Illinois '27

Hi there! My name is Autumn Rose, and I'm from Utica, Illinois. I live minutes away from Starved Rock State Park. I attended LaSalle-Peru Township High School which consists of only about 1,200 students. Within my family, I'm the youngest in a close-knit household, and I have an older sister who I absolutely adore. As well, I have a golden retriever and a grey tabby cat. Currently, I'm a first-year neuroscience student at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. Both the physical and psychological aspects of the human brain fascinate me. In addition, I'm interested in nutrition and how this field can be applied to neuroscience. There is a field labeled nutritional neuroscience that studies how the consumption of food, minerals, and supplements impacts an individual's cognition, mood, and overall brain health. Outside of the classroom, my hobbies vary tremendously. Music wise, I listen to Bryce Vine and Bazzi, but I also love Etta Mae, Arethra Franklin, and Frank Sinatra. As I do my morning routine, I listen to health and wellness podcasts on Spotify. In between classes, I do yoga and Pilates. At night, I love to do some skincare, and then crawl into bed with one of my books. Typically, I partake in crocheting and baking in the colder months. As a side note, my favorite season is fall because of the cool weather and all of the pumpkin/apple candles, foods, coffees, etc.
