Finals Week, As Told By Rory Gilmore

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Illinois chapter.

It’s getting warmer and the sun is finally making a regular appearance here in Champaign-Urbana. Naturally, students across campus are itching for summer break to begin since it’s just within reach. But first, there’s one final wave of studying, test-taking, paper-writing, and group projects: the dreaded Finals Week. One person that we can all relate to during this time is none other than Rory Gilmore. She’s incredibly smart and dedicated to her school work at both Chilton and Yale. Whether or not you’re as studious as her throughout the entire school year, these snippets of Rory in Gilmore Girls definitely embody University of Illinois students during Finals Week!

You start the week strong, and use all your spare time to get a head start on your enormous to-do list to prepare for all your upcoming finals.

You just can’t seem to get enough caffeine during this time of year. Like Rory, you owe a lot of your productivity (and all-nighters)  to coffee, and your love for it is sometimes overwhelming.

You could care less about matching your clothes, putting on makeup, or doing anything to manage your hair. When you have this much to do, all this takes a backseat in order to maximize studying time. Loungewear and a messy hair becomes your uniform!

All your good eating habits go out the window for regular delivery to the UGL. Plenty of study snacks and quick meals are crucial brain food—no matter how unhealthy they are!

When you finally walk in the door after a long day of studying for hours on end, all you want to do is just crawl in bed and sleep for hours!

But, your alarm (which you set early to fit in some extra productivity time) always goes off when it seems like you just laid your head on the pillow. This is arguably the most difficult time of the year to resist the temptation to sleep in!

You desperately want to spend your last few days on campus going out, not staying in finishing up the last of your million-page report.

You gradually become more stressed out and overwhelmed as the week progresses and your exams draw nearer.

Sometimes, it all just gets to be too much pressure and you feel like you can’t handle it!

But you’ve learned to put things in perspective and remember that all the hard work you put in during your short time at college will definitely pay off.

You feel like a genius when you finally start to remember the material you learned in lecture waaay back in January and February.

By the end of Finals Week, you’ve put in so much time preparing for your exams that you’re just ready to go ace them all!
