Fashion Trends to Try This Spring

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Illinois chapter.

For many individuals, shopping can be tough. Not necessarily the act of shopping, but knowing what to shop for. With trends changing so quickly, it’s hard to know what to spend your money on and what to skip. Below are a few trends that are sure to be popular this spring:

Fringe: They say that fashion trends just cycle in and out of a never-ending rotation. Fringe is no exception to this! While many think of it in terms of the 70’s and hippies, it’s definitely made its comeback. If you’re someone that’s into a boho look, adding a touch (or a lot) of fringe, can really elevate your outfit. You can expect to see fringe on many items, ranging from purses and jewelry to skirts and jackets. Luckily, plenty of affordable stores, such as H&M and Zara, are catching onto this trend so it doesn’t have to break the bank.

Off The Shoulder Tops (OTS): This trend has been pretty popular the past summer and spring seasons. The feminine silhouette can easily be paired with jean cut-offs for a fun daytime look or worn with a fitted skirt and heels for a flirty night out. Also, it’s flattering on practically ALL body types–who wouldn’t want that? The comfort and versatility of OTS tops are what it allow it to continue from season to season. As blogger, Emily Schuman from Cupcakes and Cashmere, puts it, an OTS is a “spring/summer staple” mainly due to its “sweet but alluring” look.

Suede: Suede is another comeback from the 70’s. It just popped back up this past year and is here to stay for the spring. A suede dress or skirt is an easy way to make a statement without having to try too hard. A black suede dress puts a trendy twist on the classic little black dress. If you’re feeling chic, combine the suede and fringe! With its increasing popularity, faux suede pieces are easy to find in most department stores and boutiques for a pretty affordable price. The blog, College Fashion, recommends investing in a pair of suede ankle boots or a purse because it can be worn more often and holds up well.

Adidas Superstar: It comes as no surprise that the Adidas Superstar is the “it” shoe for the spring. They’ve been spotted all over campus these past couple months and the trend is continuing to grow. The white Superstar offers a clean cut look while also providing the necessary comfort that you’d expect to get from a sneaker. Similar to converse, they can be worn casually with sweats to class or with a summer dress for a more upscale look. University of Illinois student Sarah Hansraj shared that she plans on investing in a pair of Adidas Superstars because of their “timeless and fresh” look. The versatility of the shoe is endless. With only slightly higher price tag than converse, the Adidas trend is likely to continue all throughout the summer and even into the fall.
