Fashion Trends I’ll Be Springing Into The New Szn With

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Illinois chapter.

With the incoming of a new year and warmer weather, there’s of course an incoming wave of fashion trends. Here are the trends I’m taking with me this Spring and summer season!

Baggy Pants

There’s something so comfortable and cool about baggy pants. They’re like sweatpants, but enough to dress up or down. Not to mention the high functionality of them due to the numerous pockets! Parachute and cargo pants have been all the rage lately, and honestly… I’m here for it. Especially for my long leg ladies trying to find pants that aren’t high waters, these baggy pants are a great avenue. Styled down with a crewneck, some Nike dunks and gold jewelry. Styled up with an asymmetrical top, heels, and loose updo. Choose your route!

Midi Skirts

I feel like these have always been in style, but now they’re starting to trend. Midi skirts are an excellent way to play up any outfit due to both the length and materials. And what makes them so wonderful is that they look absolutely stunning on every single height! These skirts paired with a baby t-shirt or even a loose blouse would make a wonderful outfit.

Button-Up Shirts

Anyone who personally knows me knows my obsession for button up t-shirts (especially men’s button ups) is serious business. I kid you not, having this one piece of clothing in your wardrobe will inevitably change the trajectory of your style. For a simple everyday fit, I love pairing a button up with high waisted jeans and sneakers. Untuck the shirt a bit and undo a few buttons for a very effortlessly relaxed approach. Or, wear a button up with a skirt and tuck in half of the shirt for a more unique approach. And personally one of my favorites, wear a crop top or bandeau top with low or mid rise pants while completely unbuttoning the button up t-shirt. This approach is the ultimate baddie look and is so easy to throw on casually.

colorful Sneakers

I have never been one to buy into colorful sneakers. I would usually stick to a classic white pair, a black pair, and occasionally a beige pair. However, with the hype around Nike dunks and New balance shoes, it’s fair to say that adding color to your shoes is an excellent way to play up or compliment any fit. Some of my favorite and most versatile colors to pull off are emerald green, baby blue, and different hues of nude. I wanna see you rock some new colorful kicks this upcoming season! Bonus points if they’re leather, because leather sneakers are a chic statement within themselves!

Shrugs

Oh my god, I have seen shrugs quite literally everywhere! They’re so versatile and honestly, a really amazing way to both spice up a fit and add to comfort. Personally, I love seeing workout shrugs because while they keep the arms warm in a chilled gym setting, they also allow for air flow to the chest and armpits. Sweater shrugs are a great way to add class to a long, bodycon dress. And even hoodie shrugs to wear on top of spaghetti straps is a move.

I could go on for ages talking about the new and exciting trends surfacing into the fashion industry, but here are my hot picks! Until next time, stay uniquely you!
