Fashion Blog: Transition Your Wardrobe For Fall Trends

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Illinois chapter.

Don’t turn to sweats and tees just yet, Collegiettes! This time of the year always seems to be the most stressful as frazzled students are returning to school and trying to figure out their new class schedules. However, with a little thought, your back-to-school wardrobe does not have to look as unorganized as you may feel. As the lazy days of summer are coming to an end, now is the time to transition your wardrobe by adding in a few new fall pieces to your summer wardrobe.

My first rule for school-appropriate attire is to buy things that you can use every day. Renew your wardrobe staples with pieces that you can count on to look great no matter how much prep time you have. A great pair of jeans and a crisp new cardigan are always items on my shopping list for fall. This season, look for at least one pair of jeans with less stretch in the material than your typical skinny jean. That way, you always have at least one pair on hand that does not have to be washed in order to retain their shape and fit.

Transition your summer tanks into fall attire by throwing on a cozy cardigan. With unpredictable weather, you do not want to be caught outside in the cold or sitting in a freezing lecture hall all because you left home unprepared. I prefer these fine-knit cashmere cardigans by J.Crew available in a rustic orange and black for every day.

Now that you have stocked up on key pieces and renewed your wardrobe stapes, it’s time to have some fun with your fall purchases. This season, I am craving a pair of high-waisted trousers, such as, this pair available at romwe.com. Pair them with a simple tank, add a blazer, and voila your look is complete.

Finally, it seems that every year, a new pair of boots sneak their way into my closet. This year, I am dying to invest in a new pair of ankle boots. As one of fall’s hottest trends, ankle booties have been finding their way into every fashion magazine, blog, store and website. With so many adorable styles to choose from, how can one decide? If you are going for a more daring look, Sam Edelman has nailed it with this edgy leopard print pair available at Free People. I also love this great suede wedge bootie by TOMS for every day that can be worn with almost anything.

No matter how dreadful trading in your bikinis and flip flops may seem, heading back to school is not all bad. It allows you’re the opportunity to change up your wardrobe and try the new fall trends that you’ve been anticipating all summer. From the classroom, to your dorm room, to your crazy nights out, ace this semester in style!
