Fashion Blog: It’s Not That Easy Being Green

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Illinois chapter.

Collegiettes at U of I know that Friday is one of the biggest “holidays” on campus. From all the Facebook invites to get Unofficial apparel, many people don’t want to shell out $15 for a green shirt they’re only going to wear once. But thanks to the fashion goddesses, it just so happens that this fun color is not just limited to the month of the Irish.

Spring is the time to see all of the prettiest trends, from bright florals to serious stripes and fun pastels, colors and prints that can finally come out of hiding in your closet. It gets me excited that winter is (slowly) winding down; after all, the groundhog saw his shadow last month and predicted only six more weeks of winter.

One of the biggest trends this season is Mint Green. This pretty pastel is the new neutral; it can practically go with anything.

Whether or not you will be celebrating this holiday, you can certainly add a pop of this bold hue into your wardrobe. Be sure to wear comfortable clothes. I would suggest your designated tee, a pair of black leggings, gym shoes or Converse  (bonus points if the shoes are green) and a cross-body bag for all of your necessities.

If you want to get ahead and wear this color post-Unofficial, take a look at these picks, all within the collegiette budget:

This bold hue will go great with a pair of pastel pants (as shown in the picture), but also works with a pair of skinny black pants to add a funky vibe.

Splendid, the brand known for its supersoft tees, is now branching out to footwear. These are a cuter version of the Sperrys and Toms seen on campus, and are a great new spring shoe. When it’s too warm for UGGs, but not quite sandal season, these will fit the bill for a midseason shoe swap.

Splendid “Rave Espadrille” Slip-On, $78.95, Nordstrom.com

Green is a great hue for jewelry, and the pretty pastel gets a tough edge with the gold stud for a chic look.

Have some (fashionable) fun and be safe this weekend!

Emily Cleary is a 22-year-old news-editorial journalism major hoping to work in the fashion industry, whether that be in editorial, marketing, PR or event planning is TBD. With internships at Teen Vogue and StyleChicago.com, it's clear that she is a fashion fanatic. When she's not studying (she's the former VP of her sorority, Delta Delta Delta), writing for various publications or attending meetings for clubs like Business Careers in Entertainment Club, Society of Professional Journalists, The Business of Fashion Club, or for her role as the Assistant Editor of the Arts & Entertainment section of her school's magazine, she's doing something else; you will never find her sitting still. She loves: running (you know those crazy cross-country runners...), attending concerts and music festivals, shopping (of course), hanging out with friends, visiting her family at home, traveling (she studied abroad in London when she was able to travel all over Europe), taking pictures, tweeting, reading stacks and stacks of magazines and newspapers while drinking a Starbuck's caramel light frappacino, blogs and the occasional blogging, eating anything chocolate and conjuring up her next big project. Living just 20 minutes outside of Chicago, she's excited to live there after graduation, but would love to spend some time in New York, LA, London or Paris (she speaks French)!
