Fashion Blog: Game Day Style

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Illinois chapter.

With the warm weather slowly starting to arrive, there are many things collegiettes look forward to in the summer months. One of the biggest ways to celebrate summer is by attending a sporting event: whether that is a football game, a baseball game, a basketball game, or a hockey playoff game. And with the London Olympics coming up, collegiettes are sure to get in the sporting mood.

But sometimes, collegiettes may be clueless on what to wear if they happen to score tickets to a game. Thankfully, we’ve got you covered so you can enter the stadium in style.

Baseball Game:
It’s no secret that America’s favorite pastime is baseball, and what better way to enjoy the weather than with a trip to the ballpark? Whether you’re rooting for the Cubbies or the White Sox (or maybe even the Cardinals), you’re going to want to wear something cute and comfortable.
To start off, you’ll want a cute tee that shows your team colors. Victoria’s Secret Pink created a collection for every Major League Baseball team, consisting of tees, baseball hats, tanks, sweatshirts and sweatpants to meet whatever weather your game day meets. You definitely won’t be “striking out” with these great finds.

Baseball games are a great way to spend a warm summer day, so be sure to show off your legs in a stylish denim mini skirt.

You’ll be walking around a lot, so wearing comfortable shoes is a must.

The extras: A sweet pair of aviator sunglasses and a crossbody bag will elevate your look to VIP status.

Hockey Game:
The hockey playoffs are just starting out, and if you happen to score tickets, you just might be the luckiest person out there.

Hockey jerseys are notoriously huge, even on the average collegiette. But they’re perfect for the ice rink. Add a pair of black leggings and flat boots, and you’ve chic-ified hockey gear. If you don’t have a jersey, head to a local sporting goods store and snag a shirt from your favorite team, and pair under a black long-sleeved Under Armour shirt. Now if only I could snag a hockey player…

Basketball Game:

As with hockey, basketball season is one of the longest-running seasons in sports, starting in November until the playoffs in June. But unlike a baseball arena, you’re inside the stadium, and you’re not freezing your stylish little tail off on the ice. Pair your favorite team’s jersey with skinny black jeans, a blazer and mid-heel booties.

Emily Cleary is a 22-year-old news-editorial journalism major hoping to work in the fashion industry, whether that be in editorial, marketing, PR or event planning is TBD. With internships at Teen Vogue and StyleChicago.com, it's clear that she is a fashion fanatic. When she's not studying (she's the former VP of her sorority, Delta Delta Delta), writing for various publications or attending meetings for clubs like Business Careers in Entertainment Club, Society of Professional Journalists, The Business of Fashion Club, or for her role as the Assistant Editor of the Arts & Entertainment section of her school's magazine, she's doing something else; you will never find her sitting still. She loves: running (you know those crazy cross-country runners...), attending concerts and music festivals, shopping (of course), hanging out with friends, visiting her family at home, traveling (she studied abroad in London when she was able to travel all over Europe), taking pictures, tweeting, reading stacks and stacks of magazines and newspapers while drinking a Starbuck's caramel light frappacino, blogs and the occasional blogging, eating anything chocolate and conjuring up her next big project. Living just 20 minutes outside of Chicago, she's excited to live there after graduation, but would love to spend some time in New York, LA, London or Paris (she speaks French)!
