Last Wednesday, November 30th, Rent the Runway at the University of Illinois hosted its first fashion show at the Her Campus holiday event. Showcasing twenty new looks for this season, students were able to start crafting their fashion-forward holiday wish lists.  Ranging from party dresses, to cocktail dresses, to even a casual chic blazer, there was something for every occasion.

Watch out America’s Next Top Model! U of I may have some competition for you. All the models featured in the Rent the Runway fashion show were Illini students. This was a great opportunity for these girls to get experience on the catwalk as they strutted down the carpet to holiday remixes courtesy of the awesome DJ. The show was very high energy and the models had such personality as they graced the audience with this season’s hottest looks.

Some of my personal favorite looks included the peplum silhouette and a particular festive holiday dress. One of the models wore a BCBGMAXAZRIA gray peplum dress ideal for New Years Eve. Another model wore a Tibi holiday dress—a perfect option for any Christmas event or party. The red detailing on this dress makes it one-of-a-kind and an appropriate choice for the holiday season.

The fashion show brought together a variety of students on campus. I-Style, a fashion RSO (registered student organization), documented the event for their student fashion blog and handled organizing the outfits and models. The fashion show, which was featured at the “Take a Holiday with Her Campus” event, incorporated all the Her Campus girls, including those involved with the Her Campus public relations committee.  Most importantly, the night was a success because of all the amazing students who showed up to the event and fashion show. Their support made everything possible!

On a final note, the fashion show stressed that college students are able to wear these dresses too. Just because they are designer clothes does not mean they are a far-fetched dream. The Rent the Runway reps at U of I are constantly handing out promo codes on campus to make renting even more affordable. Emily Cleary is a 22-year-old news-editorial journalism major hoping to work in the fashion industry, whether that be in editorial, marketing, PR or event planning is TBD. With internships at Teen Vogue and StyleChicago.com, it's clear that she is a fashion fanatic. When she's not studying (she's the former VP of her sorority, Delta Delta Delta), writing for various publications or attending meetings for clubs like Business Careers in Entertainment Club, Society of Professional Journalists, The Business of Fashion Club, or for her role as the Assistant Editor of the Arts & Entertainment section of her school's magazine, she's doing something else; you will never find her sitting still. She loves: running (you know those crazy cross-country runners...), attending concerts and music festivals, shopping (of course), hanging out with friends, visiting her family at home, traveling (she studied abroad in London when she was able to travel all over Europe), taking pictures, tweeting, reading stacks and stacks of magazines and newspapers while drinking a Starbuck's caramel light frappacino, blogs and the occasional blogging, eating anything chocolate and conjuring up her next big project. Living just 20 minutes outside of Chicago, she's excited to live there after graduation, but would love to spend some time in New York, LA, London or Paris (she speaks French)!
