Easy Group Halloween Costume Ideas

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Illinois chapter.

With midterm season coming to an end and Halloween just around the corner, there doesn’t seem to be enough time to go full-on costume shopping. Get a couple of friends together and put together a group Halloween costume using items that are easily accessible in local stores or that you might have at home!

1. Mean Girls

Get a Regina, Cady, Karen and Gretchen and some pink clothing to recreate the Mean Girls movie. There are many different scenes in Mean Girls you can get outfit inspiration from, such as the Halloween costume party or the Christmas performance scenes. The cut-out boob T-shirt is also an iconic part if you are feeling more daring. If you need more characters to dress up as, you can add Regina’s mom, Janis, and Damian to the mix.

2. Taco Bell Sauces

The Taco Bell sauces are iconic and fun. Just get dresses in each color, print out everything that goes on the dress, and write your own fun messages. There are stores that sell pre-made T-shirts or dresses too, which can be an easier alternative if you aren’t willing to get crafty with this costume. Get Taco Bell at the end of the night to top it off and truly complete your look.

3. Aliens

Alien costumes are easy because you can wear whatever you want as long as you’re wearing funky, sparkly or neon colors. If you don’t own alien headbands, no worries — you can put your hair in space buns. There are so many variations to the alien costume you can experiment with that are cute and easy to put together.

4. Beanie Babies

Put on animal onesies and print out the Beanie Babies logo to stick on the onesie. This is a practical costume because you can stay warm and comfortable throughout the night, and you can have as many people as you want take part in the group costume. If you don’t own a onesie, you can just dress up as any animal you want and stick the Beanie Babies tag on your costume.

5. Victoria’s Secret Angels

Buy a silky robe, some angel wings, curl your hair and do the bombshell makeup look. If you can’t be a Victoria’s Secret model in real life, you can at least be a model for one day and have your own photo shoot. You can also reuse the angel wings for a different costume next Halloween, which is a bonus.

6. Orange is the New Black

Buy khaki jumpsuits and one orange jumpsuit and you’re done! You can also get scrub sets, which may be easier to find than jumpsuits. It’s an easy costume, though they may be a little tough to find. Ordering them online is your best bet. All you need is the jumpsuit, nothing else, making it a very simple costume.

7. The Purge

Throw on an old white T-shirt or buy a cheap one and splatter some red paint on it. Get fake weapons, like a bat or toy knives, put on black tights or knee high socks and a creepy-looking mask. You’ll be scary and cute — kill two birds with one stone.

8. Tequila, salt and lime

What screams “college” more than tequila, salt and lime? This is a fun and cute costume that can be easily made at home using what you already have. This is easy too, since you can print out pictures and wear an outfit that matches the image.

9. Cheerleaders

A cheerleading team consists of more than one person, making it the perfect group costume for Halloween. The most important parts of a cheerleading outfit are the skirt and bow, so make sure to have those. Pom poms are a plus! Also don’t forget to be as peppy as you can to keep up with the cheerleading act.

10. Frat Boys

You have plenty of real-life examples to look at if you want to dress up as frat boys. Here is an extensive list of some clothing items frat boys are commonly seen wearing: baseball caps, button-ups, Vineyard Vines, Patagonia, athletic socks, Sperrys, Converse, boat shorts, and khaki pants. Hold a red Solo cup to add to the look.

Happy Halloween!
