Whether you’re looking to stay safe on campus or just wanting to earn student discounts, look no further! Here are 7 apps every college (and U of I) girl should have.

1. bSafe

Regardless of how big your school is, walking alone can be unnerving. The bSafe app allows you to set up a network of “guardians” that allow them to track your walk home via GPS. It also has an emergency button that sends your exact location to your set group of friends, as well as starts audio and video recording you and your surroundings.

2. Trello

Nobody really likes group projects, but Trello makes the organization aspect a little more bearable. The app lets you create to-do lists, assign tasks, and invite friends to your group. It makes collaboration easier and more accessible so nobody can say they didn’t know what they were supposed to do to contribute!

3. SelfControl

SelfControl is an app for Apple MacBooks that lets you pick and choose websites to block yourself from visiting for a set length of time. If you’re an extreme procrastinator or just easily distracted in class, this is extremely helpful for keeping yourself focused on your work. Happy (distraction-free) studying!

4. Spotify Premium

If you’re someone who listens to music constantly, Spotify has everything you need, all in one place. There is a student discount for the Premium version, which gets rid of the annoying commercials for only $5 a month. Premium accounts come with Hulu and Showtime, along with thousands of premade playlists for any mood. You can also search and listen to thousands of artists, albums, and genres with just one app.

5. PocketPoints

An app for discounts on food and clothes, you say? PocketPoints is another great way to keep your focus on class and not your phone. By adding your school and allowing it to track your location, the app will know when you’re in class or studying. Simply lock your phone and wait for the points to rack up! Spend the points to get free food or percentage off coupons at your favorite retail stores!

6. Transit

Specifically for University of Illinois students, Transit keeps all of the campus bus routes and schedules in one place. Just find your current location, the closest bus stop, and where you need to go and it’ll show you how far away the bus is. This app is perfect not only for students who live far from their classes, but also for everyone in the winter time when it’s just too brutally cold to walk farther than 10 or 15 minutes.

7. IlliniSpaces

Developed by the university, IlliniSpaces is for students who just can’t stand to stay holed up to study in their dorm. The app allows users to filter out what they want and need in a study or meeting space to find the best spot for productivity. Filtering will find places on campus with the resources you need in almost any location you can imagine!

These apps will not only make college life easier in general, but will hopefully make it a little more bearable, too!

Hi there! I'm Kendall and I'm a sophomore in advertising at the University of Illinois. Aside from staying busy writing at my internship and running around campus, you can find me adding to my monthly Spotify playlists, listening to true crime podcasts, running at the arc, or having cozy movie nights with friends!
