Headed back home for winter break and trying to think of some creative dates on a college student’s budget? Look no further.
Ice Skating
Ice skating is a super cute, cold weather friendly date. Admission ranges from $5 – $25 and skate rental is about $4 -$8. This makes it a relatively cheap date, and it is super fun too! Trying a new activity with your partner is always fun, and you get to hold hands… as long as they aren’t falling and pulling you down with!
Baking Christmas cookies
Everyone loves a batch of freshly-baked cookies straight out of the oven, and turning an everyday task into something you do with your partner can be super fun! You could bake from scratch, buy a cookie mix or even heat up some ready-to-bake Pillsbury cookies. Either way, baking is a unique and cheap activity you can do. On top of it you get to enjoy a homemade treat!
Binge Watch a show
With the new season of Stranger Things coming out over winter break, it would be a super cute date to watch it together. There are plenty of other shows on streaming services to choose as well if Stranger Things isn’t your pick. Enjoying the surprise of watching something new with your partner would certainly make a memorable experience for you both. And it’s free!
Watch a christmas movie
Cuddling with your favorite person on a cold winter night in matching PJs with a Christmas movie on sounds like the perfect date to me! Head to Target or Five Below and pick up some Christmas Pajamas under $10 each. Then you can cozy up with your favorite holiday movie, whether it be Elf, Home Alone or even Die Hard (which is apparently a Christmas movie?) Anyway, this date would be under $20 and is super cute.
Go see the Lights
Often local places will have Christmas light shows that you can drive through and see. Otherwise you could drive around nearby neighborhoods and check out their Christmas lights and decor. Make sure to turn on some Christmas music and blast the heat. Sometimes it’s nice to just have time to talk to your partner and do something simple. Going to see the Christmas lights is an easy and simple date that can be very fun.
Other inspo
It can be hard to plan and find dates that aren’t just sitting around at home when you’re on a budget, especially when the weather makes it hard to be outside or travel. However, there are options, you just have to be a little more creative than normal in the chilly seasons. Some other fun dates might be sledding, tubing, visiting a museum, bowling, rock-climbing and more. Thinking outside of the box is key when brainstorming cheap date ideas in crummy weather.
