5 Campus Events You Don’t Want to Miss

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Illinois chapter.

The spring semester can be daunting with new classes and a lot more studying. While it is good to hit the books, taking a break is an absolute necessity. So, take a break and check out these five events you do not want to miss!

1. A Capella Benefit Concert at Canopy Club

It can make it easier to go out if you’re doing it for a cause! This event will include several of our school’s top notch acapella groups including Rip Chords, Girls Next Door, No Comment and The Other Guys singing to raise money for the Illinithon Miracle Network on March 13th.

2. Friday Night Comedy at the Courtyard Cafe

This is a reoccurring event and features a few of the University’s improv groups, including Spicy Clamato and Debono Improv, who put on a different show each time. “It’s always exciting,” said improver Promise Aziaka. “You never know how it’s going to go or what someone will say!” Give Friday Night Comedy a try, and expect the unexpected!

3. Open Mic Night at the Union

Similar to the Comedy Shows, this also happens multiple times a semester and is open to the public to get up on stage and share their art.  If you are interested in showing your own, or just seeing your fellow students at work, come check this out! The atmosphere is inclusive and great for relaxing with friends!

4. Firehaus Weekly Events

Firehaus has specials throughout the week, however they have special events on Tuesday and Wednesday! On Tuesday, they host a pop culture trivia night which is perfect for you and your friends to get together and test your knowledge against each other. On Wednesday nights, they host a Karaoke night, which is a wonderful opportunity to sing your heart out!  UIUC Student Kris Kwak said, “Karaoke night was a lot of fun, I would totally do it again!”

5.  Japan House Events

Japan House is one of the best hidden secrets at U of I. They hold a ton of interesting cultural events, including the upcoming Breakfast at Japan House, where a select amount of students will get to eat traditional Japanese breakfast and see how it is different from our standard diets. They also hold events throughout the semester. Following them on Facebook is the best way to stay posted on their events!
