Summer may be filled with warm weather activities, but for those days where you’re craving the air conditioning, check out these much anticipated summer films!
1. “Godzilla” – May 16: How convenient is it that this opens in theaters on the last day of finals? “Godzilla” has been one of the most talked about films of the year, and its release date is almost here! The film isn’t exactly star-studded, but with the addition of “Breaking Bad’s” Bryan Cranston, there’s sure to be great acting.
2. “Blended” – May 23: Hollywood’s favorite onscreen couple, Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler, are back again for a romantic comedy. The duo appeared on “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon” in promotion of this film, and from the clip they brought, it looks like “The Wedding Singer” and “50 First Dates” have some competition!
3. “Maleficent” – May 30: I may not be the biggest Angelina Jolie fan in the world, but her portrayal of the villainous “Sleeping Beauty” character is absolutely perfect. With Disney’s track record in modern remakes of traditional fairy tales, I wouldn’t be surprised if this ends up being one of the best films of the summer.
4. “22 Jump Street” – June 13: Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill are back for the sequel to the extremely popular “21 Jump Street.” This time, the two cops are sent on an undercover project at a college, testing their friendship and, of course, making us laugh.
5. “Transformers 4: Age of Extinction” – June 27: The film won’t be the same without the inclusion of Shia LaBeouf, but using Mark Whalberg as a backup isn’t exactly a let down. Plus, dinosaur transformers? Michael Bay certainly knows how to keep an audience interested.
6. “Deliver Us From Evil” – July 2: I figured this list needed a scarier movie, and this plot is an intriguing one. Eric Bana (from “Lone Survivor”) plays a cop who has given up on religion. However, the devil hasn’t given up on him and torments him through the means of a possessed soldier. It may not be the best movie, but it’s intriguing and Bana doesn’t often disappoint.
7. “The Purge: Anarchy” – July 18: After the huge reaction to the first “Purge” film, a sequel was bound to come about. This film follows a couple unable to make it to their home in time for the purge to start. Some say the writers are pushing it by creating a second film with essentially the same plot, but I think it’ll be just as good if not better than the original.
8. “Hercules” – July 25: Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson… enough said. He worked hard to do this film the right way, and can you think of a better Hercules than a man nicknamed “the Rock?” I can’t wait to see how this film turns out!
9. “Sex Tape” – July 25: Cameron Diaz and Jason Segel star in this comedic take on a, albeit somewhat overdone, topic. However, the film seems to take a different spin, as it follows a couple who lost their sex tape and will go to any means necessary to get it back. This film sounds perfect for that day you just need a good laugh.
10. “Let’s Be Cops” – August 13: Damon Wayans Jr. stars alongside Jake Johnson (Nick from “New Girl”) in this comedic film. It comes out right before school starts, so consider this your last summer film before the 2014-2015 school year.
