Typical College Girl Trends

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Illinois State chapter.

Have you ever felt like when walking around campus every single girl is dressed the exact same? It’s like everyday before class each girl is placed into a conveyor belt to be made up before she is sent on her way. I know it and you know it, after one girl has something, it seems like every other girl has to have it too. We feed off of each other to follow the latest trend. Some have even called this the “girl uniform”.

Trends come and go, but as females, we rarely skip a single one. Girls are always on top of these transient fads, as they strive to be socially accepted by their peers. For better or worse, when there is an emerging fashion trend, even if you are oblivious, you know about it. The funny thing about these trends is that many times, they are expensive items that are supposed to be worn in a relaxed setting. Now, these fashion trends are not just made up of one item, but rather a compilation of several brands.

  1. Uggs, you know those fuzzy mid-calf boots that come in about every color? If you look into a girl’s closet, I can almost guarantee there are a pair of the real this type of boot. We claim they keep our feet so warm, but if we are being honest, they are comfortable and go with any type of sweats outfit we can imagine.

  2. Pink: Probably one of the biggest fads that is happening right now is Victoria’s Secret’s Pink line. It is and has been taking over the girl-world and university’s campus’ all over the country.  From yogas to leggings to tanks, there seems to be no girl who isn’t following this trend.  What’s even better, the yogas and leggings go perfect with a pair of Uggs.

  3. Spirit jerseys, for those of you who don’t use this exact term, spirit jerseys are those extra large, long sleeve shirts that every sorority, RSO, and major seems to have.  They come in every color and go perfectly with leggings and Uggs.

  4. The North Face, this is an American outdoor product company specializing in outerwear, however, us girls have taken the adventure out of the brand and turned it into an every day staple. Those super soft zip-ups are an easy choice when heading out the door on a chilly day. Not only are The North Face products warm, but also they make a pretty good coat to top off your girl uniform.

  5.

Maybe you’re wondering, how do I complete the look? Vera Bradley will do just that. Vera Bradley is the luggage company that has taken over campus in bag form. The Vera Bradley bags are those super adorable floral print backpacks, clutches and weekend bags.

Now lets talk cost. This super cute outfit comes with a price tag, and not a very cheap one. Although these are worn in a relaxed setting, you’re wearing about $500 worth of clothes.  The cost of each of these items on average is $150 for Uggs, $45 for Pink yoga’s, $45 for a spirit jersey, $150 for a North Face, and $100 for a Vera Bradley backpack. Hopefully you’ve got that money, honey.
